phillys14
97 Impreza Outback, 5 speed, a rattling type noise just started, appears to be more back right, but can't be for sure, the noise seems to go away during acceleration or when clutch is in, generally heard while off of gas, is louder at higher speeds, have never heard this before and having a hard time isolating noise, any ideas would be appreciated
AdventureSubaru
the usual underside rattle is a heat shield on the exhaust that becomes loose. Have you checked those?

phillys14
I don't notice it neutral, but also don't really notice it at low speeds either, only higher speeds when off of the gas
Fairtax4me
Checked the heat shield, everything seems to be tightWhich one? There are at least 7. Does it matter if the trans is in gear? Put it in neutral and keep engine speed up, does it still make the noise? What about if you rev the engine up when sitting still?
