scooby dooo
I have a 2000 legacy 5 speed manual. It makes a subdued howl/humming when in first gear, disengaging or engaging the clutch at low speeds. Does not make the noise in nuetral or at higher speeds. The car is otherwise mint and was a good deal at 6700 with 95k. Any ideas as to what this noise could be?
Adnan
Hi, Could be just a noisy first gear/laygear (excessive play). If the rest of the unit is fine, try switching brands of gearbox fluid. While Redline is very good, the Porsche folks swear by Swepco. I have Swepco in my BMW and it really quieted down a clattering gearbox.
