Check Engine - '97 Impreza - Please Help

Recommended Posts

I know that I should first search the boards, though I am about to head off to work and do not have the time at the moment, please do forgive me for that, though I am hoping somone that has had an issue of this nature in the past can help.

I now own a '97 Impreza 2.2L and the check engine light is on, the tank is full and the gas cap is on tight so I know it is not something as simple as that, though beyond that, I am not sure.

I will probably run it by a local shop tomorrow, though I was wondering if there is anything specific I should check for before taking it down to the shop and if so, what can be done?

I just had to see the car have an problem already, while it is used, it is rather new to me since the previous car I had was complete junk, hence me getting this one.

The light just seems to have came on too as it did not when I was test driving or anything of that nature.

Any assistence is appreciated!!!

Hi,

First thing, take it to a place where they can read the trouble codes for you. Some parts places (AutoZone) will do it free, others may charge a nominal fee.

Once you know the code, you'll have a better idea of where to start. This really is the first step.

Regards,

Adnan

How many miles? Let me guess and say just over 60K. Magically the light went on in my forester after 60K and my WRX at 62K. Only happens when I don't use brute force to secure the gas cap. The check engine light thing is a reason to get you into the dealer so they can relieve you of some funds to tell you the gas cap is not sealing properly.
