I just bought a 95 legacy with a 2.2 auto AWD with 133000 miles. What are some common engine swaps? I would like to put a 5 speed tranny in it. I've heard a WRX engine would bolt in. Is this true? What are some easy upgrades for the current engine?

check out my write-up on my AWD & 5spd swap. It's pretty invovled, however it can be done.

Engine swap would "probably" be easier, but there's still items you need to take into consideration if you want to do it right.

Josh, I haven't read your write up (yet), but does Mudrat's adaptor make it easier to install a 5spd?

Mudrat's adapter is for using EA 5 speeds with EJ motors in an EA car
Josh's writeup is for using EJ 5 speeds with EJ motors in EJ cars

To be completely accurate, John's adapter will allow the use of a D/R 5sp behind an EJ motor in any vehicle.

Being more attuned to old school stuff, I hadn't thought of putting a new gen (awd) 5 spd in when a d/r is an option. What was I thinking?:banghead:
