Thanks The early 96 Outbacks had the EJ22 in them, the EJ25 wasn't standard in the Outback until 97. As for the swap, without having checked the ECU pinout, I'd say it would be fairly simple. Unless you already have the donor car, I would suggest trying to find a 95 to 99 Legacy with an EJ22 in it, the wiring should be the same then.
