97 OBS conversion to electric locks

Recommended Posts

i have manual locks on my 97 OBS.

any ideas on converting to electric locks?

surprised i didn't see anything on this in a search.

can i buy two electric doors and use the parts inside?

is the car be pre-wired to accept the electric door lock connections?

Yeah it is possible. I did this not too long ago. Your best bet is to buy a power door lock kit, and then install it. The kit comes with a universal actuator, and some mounts and a brain. Installation is a little time consuming, but if you want, I will email you some pics of my install. The brain also makes adding a keyless system very easy.

The car is most likely not pre-wired for power door locks, but all you need is power from the car, the comes with the door lock kit. You don't need a switfch because the lock is the switch.

Good luck.

I have never seen an outback without pwr locks and windows??

You can get a universal kit or get parts from the bone yard.

i wish i could say i haven't seen one without power locks.

is swapping parts from an impreza an option or not really? i'd rather use stock parts if possible. any other models swap to the OBS doors?

I was taking about Legacy Outbacks, I have never seen one without pwr locks.

I am not familiar with imprezas.

I think SPAL makes the universal kits that should fit most cars. I bought mine from gmwhitelude on ebay. He seemed to have the best prices. The directions were okay, the wiring is not that hard, all you really need to supply is power and a ground. The hardest part was where to mount the actuator and all that stuff.
