dentedfender
i just put in a 83 tranny into my 84 gl and the cv's can move up and down and in and out about 1/4 of an inch. One of the techs at my work said it was cuz its probally a dl tranny and those use smaller cv's. Is this true? Also what else could be causing this besides them being diffrent sizes? thanks for the help.
MilesFox
are you meaning the axle wobblesaround on the tranny stubs? both trannies have 23 spline shafts what part of the axle specifically "moves in and out"?

Yes the axle on the tranny stubs. and if you grab the outside peice of the axle that connects to the tranny where you have to put the pin in it will move up and down and in and out. GeneralDisorder
Probably sloppy bearings in the tranny. 83/84 should be identical for the same tranny. And as fas as the stub splines - those are the same for ALL EA81 trannys. Even the auto's and turbo's were the same 23 spline stub.
