  1. My 92' Loyale 4wd needs new rear struts badly!! I went to my local Napa parts store & they priced them at $73 per side!!! OUCH!!!! I didn't try any other stores because I know their gonna quote me a similar price. I want to spend way less than that but I really don't want to get used salvage yard ones unless they are practically new. Besides, there are hardly any subies in the yards in this part of the country anyway. Is there a way to just replace the shock inside the spring instead of buying the entire assembly? I would think that'd be a cheaper way to go if it's even possible.. Thanks....
  2. Nope, thats not it, but I definately know what you're talking about..My old 89' subie had a bad CV & clicked like crazy when I turned a corner.. The sound i'm talking about is actually from within the tranny.. Hmmmm, how can I put this in simpler terms..Ok, basically it makes a low pitched, very audible single click sound when it changes gears.. Anyone.???
  3. 92 Loyale 4wd 3AT..This problem has started just recently..When I take off from a stop or when I shift it into drive from reverse or park, I can hear a single audible "click" inside the tranny each time it shifts itself..This only happens when it shifts itself into 1st gear and from 1st to 2nd, but NOT from 2nd to 3rd..Also this only happens when the tranny is under very little load, for instance driving through a parking lot slowly..It will also do this when it shifts down from 2nd to 1st.. Keep in mind it has nothing to do with a noisy shifter linkage when I put it into gear, we can rule that out right now..The sound is from within the tranny AFTER it has been put into gear.. Also the tranny fluid level is just fine & actually a pinch too high (oops, got a little carried away when I added the fluid on the last change)
  4. I recently got my 92' Loyale 4WD automatic back from a long stay at the repair shop. The front transaxle had to be pulled & rebuilt one week after I bought the car.We found out after opening it that the gears & bearings were shot due to lack of oil.Apparently the previous owners hadn't checked the oil level very often,if ever.. Well, it's a few weeks later now & i'm not sure if it was actually lack of maintenance or if it's actually the car that's making the oil disappear!! Here's whats going on: I've been checking the transaxle oil often since I got the car back & it keeps losing the oil somewhere but ONLY while it's being driven..Now here's the weird part..I've been checking the transmission fluid also & it's level keeps rising higher everytime the transaxle level falls..I've even had to drain off some of the tranny fuid twice now because it was getting too high & at the same time put MORE oil in the transaxle.!!.Simply put, I think the transaxle oil is making it's way into the transmission somehow but only while it's being driven.. Is this even possible??What the hell is going on??? :boohoo:
  5. Ok, I installed new timimg belts today on my 92' Loyale..I had the valve timing marks on the flywheel aligned correctly with the center one on the arrow..I had the cam sprocket timing marks aligned so that the passenger side was at 12 0'clock & the drivers side was at 6 o'clock, the same as they were when I started the project, nothing moved as far as I know.. I decided to take a quick peek in my Haynes manual before I replaced the covers to remind myself of anything I may have forgotten to do & I noticed something in their pictures/captions that really threw me..According to the manual, the cam sprocket marks should BOTH be aligned at 12 o'clock, not 12 & 6 like I have mine.. Who's wrong, me or them??? I won't be putting everything back together till tommorrow, so I can still change things easily if need be.. On another note, how much affect would having the cam marks off by one belt tooth have on the motor or the performance..Not that I plan to or would want to, just kinda' wondering..
  6. So there's 2 timing belts to replace under the covers??..I thought there was just one long one by the looks of the photos in my Haynes manual..Maybe I need to pour over their instructions again.. Do you usually need to replace the tensioners??
  7. Two reasons i'm putting a new timing belt in my 92' Loyale..One is that I need to pull the oil pump & either repair or replace it to get rid of that damn clicking from the valves ..I already tried the 50W oil & MMO trick (didn't work)..Since I have to pull the covers & belt to get to the pump, I might as well put a new belt on while i'm in there.. Second reason is i'm sure the belt is very worn (103,000 miles) & the engine just seems like it runs different everyday as far as being in time, almost like the belt is missing teeth & the timing is varying a few degrees back & forth.. ANYHOO, my question is: obviously I need to get the new oil pump seals & the timing belt..BUT, are there any other parts I should get while i'm out (such as the tensioners maybe??) I'd like this to be as smooth of a project as possible this weekend.. Believe me, I already know how those "easy" projects end up being nightmares sometimes..I'm already having visions of myself this weekend throwing tools across the yard:madder: , punching stationary objects:banghead: , & scaring the neighbors:moon: ..Hopefully it won't be that bad though:D ...
  8. A HEAVILY modified Justy with an AWD chassis & a 2.2 turbo crammed under the hood. Hmmmmmm, I wonder if it could be done..
  9. Could be a number of things, but here's one idea (same thing happened to me)!!.This is only if you have an auto tranny though.. Mine was blowing HUGE white smoke & long story short, I replaced the vaccuum modulator on the tranny..Haven't seen the slightest bit of smoke since then!! Check the vaccuum line that goes to the modulator on the tranny for signs of tranny fluid inside it..If your modulator is bad, the vaccuum line will suck tranny fluid & it ends up going straight into your intake manifold along with your fuel..Hence the white smoke..
