  1. Thanks Johnceggleston. I must have a loose connection or a short on the dimmer switch since I wasn't adjusting it.
  2. I have an electrical problem with a 2005 2.5 XT outback wagon. Driving to work this AM I had the headlights and fog lights on when I noticed that every so often both the radio display and the temp display would dim and then go back to being bright. Later I noticed that the trip OD would flash ILL.5 and then this changed to ILL.6 before going back to giving the mileage. Does anyone have any idea as to the problem? Thanks.
  3. I asked a similar question last week. I have an '05 XT as well and after checking the book and tirewarehouse.com I think I'm going with new 16" steel rims and, probably, the Winter force snow tires. Harder rubber and since they use so much salt up here the roads are usually bare pavement. My son has Blizacks on his Legacy and loves them, but he ran them in Montana last year where the roads aren't usually bare.
  4. Thanks for the replies, the local dealer says they should fit, but I don't have any around to try out. Thought I could get more and better info from this forum. I also don't want to run the alloy wheels in the salt. It would certainly be cheaper to go with 16's.
  5. Does anyone know if I can use 16 inch wheels and snow tires on a 2005 outback wagon that came with 17 inch wheels? Will I have enough clearance for brakes ect? And is it okay to use steel wheels? Thanks
  6. Thanks guys (non gender term). My wife has done most of the driving, me about 500 miles and some done by our son. It just seems that you would have to be really bad to fry the clutch and fly wheel this soon. I hope it doesn't happen again, soon!!
  7. Just had to replace the clutch including the fly wheel on a 2005 2.5XT outback wagon with 13.5k miles. Does anyone have an opinion on how long subie clutches last? A friend told me she's done 3 on her car, the first with under 28k on the car. My experience with non subies is they go for at least 100k. Comments?? Please note all drivers of the 2.5 XT are experienced in driving manual transmissions.
  8. My son's driving a 97 legacy wagon 2.2 which only had 11k on it when we got it. Want me to hook you up??
  9. Yup, Salvage. Bought with 2600 miles from a trusted dealer who, I hope will take care of this. Is it an adjustment or does it mean a new clutch??
  10. We have a 2005 Outback wagon 2.5 XT. Problem seems to have started yesterday. Driving in 3rd 4th or 5th gear (manual trans) if you accelerate when at ~40 mph the car acts like its not in gear. That is the rpm's increase but the speed doesn't. It just revs. Car only has ~13,500 miles on it any thoughts???? It does not have a dealer warrantee. Thanks in advance.
  11. Is the rear wiper on the 05 outback a dealer part? The way it attaches seems like it may be. Also, it doesn't look like you can just change the rubber. Thanks.
  12. As the recent buyer of an '05 outback wagon 2.5 turbo I can tell you there's no lag on our turbo. Around town mileage is ~23, trip ~ 28, I haven't had it for an interstate trip yet but would expect 28ish mpg. Best advice: Go Drive One.
  13. Time to move out west and avoid the inspections, plus play in the snows of MT since Vt does get snow anymore!
  14. Once at a station in VT I had the guy tell me my directional flashed too quickly!
  15. Gnuman, See my post from earlier today regarding the top end on an 05 turbo, link below. One member posted the link to a site that says the turbo has an electronic cut out at 136 mph. I tried to find your 92 listed but no luck, sorry. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=55493
  16. PAezb, I'm old enough that I realize my mortality and other peoples' could be an issue. That's one reason I haven't pushed it. In a previous life I had an 80's Toyota Corolla 5 speed that could do 115. But that was many moons ago.
  17. We have an '05 outback wagon 2.5 turbo that we've driven for about 2 months now. Due to my advanced years (maybe I'm a little smarter now) I haven't pushed the car too much. I have hit 80 mph and there seems to be plenty left, so I was wondering what the top end might be for an unmodified 2.5 turbo. Any ideas anyone?? I'd love to have the car out west where I could let it go, but on the east coast it's harder to do. Thanks.
  18. We have a 2005 turbo (just got it about 6 weeks ago) that we love! My question is: Does anyone regularly use lower octane gas and what are the issues? Lower mpg? Any engine problems? Poor performance? I filled the tank this AM and considered using regular unleaded, but felt guilty so I went with high test 93 octane. With gas up $0.20 since last week I would like to use lower cost fuel at least once in a while. All comments appreciated, thanks.
  19. Thanks Ranger83, it's got Bridgestones on it now and I was a little concerned - I'd like to have a more agressive tread-but with our weather I thought I'd give them a try. I was going to get the mats from Costco but my wife doesn't like those.
  20. I've got a kid in Bozeman who's been skiing at Bridger - at least there's plenty of snow in the mts.
  21. We did it, picked up an 2005 XT wagon 5 speed. Hopefully it will be a great car for years. it certainly is fun to drive.
