  1. I've had a EJ22 and now have a EA81. Both were great for their own reasons. I miss the power of the EJ22, but the simplicity of the EA81 makes up for it. Friend has a 93 Legacy wagon 2wd that just turned 302,000, still going strong with cold A/C. Way to build 'em Subaru.
  2. Wow, thanks. I had just noticed that the factory wiring had the common ground problem and I now agree after reading your post, it'll be easier just to run new wires. Thanks for the rear speaker dimensions...I wasn't sure how big, but I new a 6 1/2 wouldn't fit. Good thinking with using your own ground too, I hadn't thought of that, but seeing how thin the factory wiring is, I think that would be best. I'll let you know if I run into any problems. I foresee cramming the 4x6 plate into the driver side front will be fun, but if you did it, it's possible. I have the radio installed in the trimmed plastic and the storage bin shoved into the old radio location. Now to the speakers and wiring. Thanks again
  3. Yep, it's an 89 hatchback, last year for the EA81. Thanks again for the help and the offer for more help. Anything's better than the blown little junk speakers in there now. I don't think 6 1/2s will fit in the rear, but I'll be inspecting that soon. I may go with 5 1/4s I already have.
  4. I have an 89 hatch. How do you know if it's a 3.70 or 3.90 diff? Can you tell by spinning the rear wheel(s) and counting the driveshaft rotations? Is there a specific model that had the LSD or is it hit or miss in the junkyard?
  5. Thanks a lot for the great detailed pics. The Kappas are ordered and on the way. I have an 89 so hopefully they didn't put anything else in the way of the speakers since 83.
  6. hatchsub, I'd love to see some pictures of your speaker install. I have an 89 hatch that I'm looking to upgrade. Thanks
