Yep, look for a 99 with low mileage or go for a lift now!
1996 - 1999 had the same body style, right? (same springs?)
-
Check out some junkyard for a low milege one that was wrecked...good springs for a good price.
-
If you need it right now, try a junkyard or dealer.
If you can wait for it to come in the mail, try out https://www.1stsubaruparts.com
They have the bumper cover for $165 for your car...but shipping might kill the savings since its a larger item...not sure...check it out. Good luck.

My 96 Outback is supposed to be at 28/29 (I forget which one is which...28 front/29 rear?)
I fill mine to about 32 in the summer for hopes of better gas mileage and better tire wear...but in the winter I keep them around 28..
40 just seems a bit much...
-
A two inch lift and brush guard would make my Outback so happy
-
Ohh man, that is hot.
-
Glad to hear you got a great car, for one hell of a price.
I wouldnt resurface rotors...just go to Autozone and pick up some cheap ones...they work just fine and last a while.
-
kinda like the solar powered clothes drier. sold on ebay for like $500, two nails and 10' of rope.
sad to know america is full of idiots isnt it.
Hahahaha. That is awesome.
-
Check out Scorpion Automotive. They make a couple different lift kits. You can get them here in the USA through Renick Subaru.
I see you have a lifted outback...got any pictures of it?
-
Up to $31 with 28 bids! Just goes to prove there is more than one fool in the world.
A while ago there was some dude selling a bag of marshmellows from Lucky Charms Cerial...it sold for like $100. It was a gallon bag of them. You have to be original and come up with this stuff...even if its a joke...it can get you a little bit of money...if the winning bidder pays.

I had a 'clunk' in my outback. It happend when I turned...went over bumps...slowed down...etc.
It was a rear strut that went bad. Whenever the car shifted it would make nosie. You might want to look into that...just rock the car at each corner and listen for any nosie.
PS. I missed the part of you taking it to a shop...haha...so it probably is not a strut.
-
Take it back to the dealer...demand they fix it.
Good luck.
-
also do the water pump, cam seals, oil pump seals.
Its pretty much just parts costs since they already are doing work right there.
-
I'd offer less because its due for a timing belt. Show up with like $4000 cash and see what they say...go up a little from that. I am not saying the car isn't worth more, but just a suggestion to get it a little cheaper for you.
-
I am sure waxing it will protect it pretty well. Whenever you have the car waxed, just be sure to do the roof rack too. If it happens between waxings you could always get some of the spray on wax for just the roof rack.
I usuly wax mine to give it that shiney black look so it dosnt look dry and dull.

Very good information. Someone outta bookmark this and share it when others have this problem...as it comes up quite a bit.
-
Is it slipping when in gear? I've never seen a clutch just stick to the floor.
How old is the clutch? (how many miles are on it)
-
I had sears do my front brakes...pads and rotors. They did a good job...I did new pads for front and rear, and new rotors on the back. Front rotors from Sears were still good and nice and smooth...so I reused them.
-
are we talking about oil and atf?
-
I have a single bad strut in the rear of my Outback...every bump makes it make a noise...
Rock the car by hand to make sure it is the strut
-
Open the hood, drivers side by the strut thinger there is a plate with paint codes on it. Go to a dealer and ask for it...they'll hook you up.
AND.....Welcome to the board!
-
To have a long life with the engine, you'll want to find a turbo engine to put in the car. Do a search on the board and you'll see what all engine internals need to be replaced in order to have a decent amount of boost, and long engine life.

Thanks for all of the input. I have been looking all over for a '96 outback with a 5 speed, and most importantly the 2.2L engine.
I have one that you can have if you take over the payments :-P
tow with 2.2???
in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX

I'd tow it. Just take it easy on it. How long of a distance are you towing it?
