  1. Thanks for the info. I changed the oil when I first got the car this last August. It was really clean. The whinning sound on deceleration reminds me of a small car how it whines when you back it up but it is in any gear when I lift off the gas.
  2. I am concerned. My 95 5MT has a noice that sounds like a spinning bearing when I push the clutch in. The sound decreases as the RPMs go done. If I am coasting in neuteral & move the shift lever toward or into a gear the noise gets lowder for a second. I beleive it is the release bearing. Here is my concern, I also have a gear whine on deceleration. It is in all gears when I am decelerating with the car in gear. The whine goes away if I push the clutch in. I have been told the gear whin could go on for years. Do I just do the clutch job & hope for the best on the tranny? I can't afford a new tranny or a new car right now. Any suggestions would be appretiated.
  3. I think I may have a problem. I am getting gear whine when I am in gear & let off the gas. It is most noticable in 3rd gear but it is there in all gears. I only notice it when I am off the gas. I have changed all the fluids when I bought the car in September. Any ideas? Am I doomed? Pat Callaghan 95 Legacy Outback 2.2L, 5-spd, AWD Wagon
  4. Thanks all. It is all back together. All I have to do is double check my crank pulley torque.
  5. I just got the bolt loose by getting a angled brake adjusting tool into the flywheel. Thanks for the help.
  6. Alright, I am a idiot. I can't get the crank bolt off. I have this heavy duty strap wrench & no go. I tried putting the car in 5th but there is not enough throw to break the bolt loose. I can't seem to get anything into the flywheel ring gear unless I remove the intake manifold. There just does not seem to be enough room. Any ideas? This is my only car & I need to get this solved soon. Thanks.
  7. I have a noise inside my timing cover that sounds like a bearing going bad. I am going to pull the belt off this weekend & check out the parts. I understand a chain wrench will hold the cam sprockets in place while you loosen the attachment bolts. I do not have the special subaru wrench #499977700. Will that also work to rotate the camshaft & crankshaft? Thanks.
  8. A guy came up to my door one day & asked if I was selling my Sube. I had been thinking about it & so I sold it. Now a few months later I have my 95 Legacy/Outback with a 5SPD.
  9. The TCU was right under the dash to the left of the steering wheel if I remember correctly. I don't have the car anymore but if you take off the trim panel to the left (as you drive) of the steering wheel it should be right there. It is hanging from to 10mm nuts. Very easy to change out. Two nuts & three plugs & your done. Make sure the rest of the system is up to snuff. It took me about a month with allot of help from this forum to figure out my problem. Subaru wanted to replace my tranny. Good luck.
  10. Thanks for the replies guys. I am going to buy a kit to fill it up. The kit comes with a pressure gauge so I should be able to get a accurate reading of how much R-134 to put in. I willl see what that does first. Anything more is probably out of my league.
  11. On my 95 Legacy Outback the A/C clutch cycles on & off as I drive or sit & idle. The air is cold but I have never seen a compressor cycle unless there was a problem. I have a little froth in the sight glass. Any suggestions? Is this normal? Thanks.
  12. No sunroof but I think I am just going to have the glass replaced. Thanks for the info.
  13. Hi all, I have a small leak on the right side of my windshield. I was wondering if this was a "do-it-yourself" repair or do I need to take it into a glass shop? The glass is not cracked but does have some pits. Oregon in winter is not the place to have a leaky windshield. Thanks for any suggestions.
  14. I just bought a 95 Outback with 92K for $7000. Nice car. Needs some little things like dash bulbs fixed.
  15. I am getting 21MPG with my 92 AWD auto. Never got better then 23MPG. 112K BTW.
  16. Dave, After all the help you gave me I wish I could help. I do have a TCU you could try if you can't find one there.
  17. Of a 250-24000 if I want a 4 wire universal. And they also do not charge shipping for orders over $25. I'll order mine today. Thanks for the help guys.
  18. Thanks for the help guys. I will probably buy myself something for Christmas.
  19. Bob, Yes all the doors do unlock with the drivers side. Let me know how it goes. Thanks.
  20. Can anyone give me the part number/brand of the generic O2 sensor to use in my 92 Legacy? Seems like everywhere I have looked they want about $100 for the thing. Thanks.
