  1. Hi all, Is there anyway to install a keyless entry into my 92 Legacy wagon? I always see remotes for sale on eBay but they are all for 95 & newer Legacys. Also, would any of those newer Subaru CD/cassette stereos fit in mine? I was curious about the size & the wire harness. Thanks.
  2. Thanks for the info. I think I will go replace mine. With 110K it could not hurt.
  3. Mine was cause by a bad TCU. I also had a bad duty solenoi c but the computer took awhile to track down. Lots of help from this forum. Do you have any tranny code showing up?
  4. Well. I got another TCU today. It is not the right part number but it is out of a 93 Legacy AWD model sedan. It has a big EE on it instead of the GJ mine has. So far, no more binding & no TCU code 24. Seems to drive & shift fine. Any ideas if the different TCU could hurt anything? It was $20 so I figured I can't go wrong plus it seems to have proved that the old TCU was bad. Any thoughts?
  5. Hi all, While I try to find a used TCU I thought I would look at my AC system. It is low on charge & the compressor kicks on & off. I am assuming because of the low charge. I am thinking that in the long run it will be cheaper to convert it to R-134 then to just have it leak checked & charged with R-12. I think I saw retrofit kits of the Subaru somewhere. Any idea if there is a specific one needs & how much do they cost? Also, is this something a home mechanic can do? Thanks.
  6. Josh, Exactly what I am going to do. I am not going to pay for a new one. Hopefully we can put this tread to rest & I can enjoy my car. Thanks for all the help.
  7. Hi all, OK, here is what I found up to now. There is never any binding when I have a 12v source going to the solenoid. Never skipped a beat. What I did find this morning is that my voltage that the TCU outputs is not correct. With the fuse out & the car in "1" gear & the pedal floored there should be less then .5V. I have 4-7V. I have also checked all the TCU ground for resistance at the body & there is no bad ground. All read 0 ohms. There are four different grounds. What this seems to be telling me is the harness to the solenoid & the solenoid & the clutch packs are fine. I think either the TCU is bad or one of it's inputs. If it was one of the inputs I should get a code on the ECU but I am not. Just the TCU code 24. Does all this make sense? Am I missing something? I think it's the TCU.
  8. Mike, I just hooked up a 12V that was through the ignition switch. When I had my volt meter hooked up the computer was giving the slenoid 11.65V with the fuse in. This just bypasses the TCU & everything that feeds it. If this continues to work what I need to do is start checking components & grounds from the TCU & sensors. Code 24 is the duty solenoid c. Even with the solenoid wired the way I have it, the TCU poped the code after I cleared it. Pat
  9. Josh, The fuse would fix the binding but every once in a while the voltage would just drop to 0V. Then the binding would start again. If I shut off the car & restarted it, the voltage wouyld be back up to 11V & no more binding.
  10. Ok, here is what I have done. I cut the wire going from the TCU to the duty soenoid c. (#3 connector b33) I hooked up a switched 12v source to the wire going down to the solenoid. With that configuration, there is no binding whatsoever. There is still a code 24 in the computer but I am going to clear it. It turns out the service advisor was not even sure if his tech hooked up the TCU diagnostic. I think all he did was drive it. Any more ideas? Thanks.
  11. Well, the dealer says the problem is in the tranny. They want about $2600 for another one. They said everything electrical checked out so it has to be in the tranny. They also said that I could replace the clutch pack but it may not solve the problem. I am going to give myself a couple of days to cool off but I think this car has got to go. Thanks for all the help & suggestions you all made. I do appretiate it.
  12. I want to thank all you guys for the help trying to suss out my torque bind issue. You guys have been real patient with me. Tomorrow I take the car to Gresham Subaru to have the TCU checked out. If they tell me what's wrong I can probably fix it. I hope it's worth the 1/2-1 hour labor he tells me it should take. I'll let you all know tomorrow evening what I find out. Thanks again.
  13. Josh, Only when the voltage drops to 0V. Example this morning all the way to work, 11.65V with no torque bind. Yesterday I was just driving my wife to church & the voltage dropped. As I pulled over I got the torque bind. I shut off & re-started the car & again, 11.6V & no torque bind the rest of the day. I have parts of the wire diagram. The thing that bugs me is that I still have a code 24. Whatever is the problem, would not this most likely be in the duty solenoid c circuit?
  14. How do I check these? I have this info & really don't know where to go from here. I beleive I have two problems. 1. the AWD binding with the fuse out. 2. the sudden voltage drop & then AWD binding. I'm stuck.
  15. Ok, here is what I have done. I wired my volt meter positive to #3 (duty soenoid 3) at the TCU & negative to #10 (ground) at the TCU. Here is what I have found. With the fuse out, I start the car & the voltage is about 6volts. By time I get to the corner, the voltage has dropped to .003volts. Essentially 0V. I am getting a lot of torque bind while all this is going on. If I put the fuse in, I get about 11-12volts at startup & it settles doen to 11.6volts as I drive. At this point I get no torque bind. All of a sudden shile I am driving the volts will just drop to .003v. When that happens the bad torque bind comes back. What is going on? Thanks.
  16. Thanks. I have heard of Mountain Tech. before. Never been there but hear they are very good.
  17. Well, it helps most of the time. This afternoon it started binding up with the fuse in. Not as bad but still it was noticable. Seems to be worse warm then when the car is cold.
  18. Although I had changed it last Saturday they replaced 5 quarts. I will recheck it. The mechanic thought that if it was a sticking accumulator that some non-slip additive might help. Any ideas on what to use & how much. Thanks.
  19. They showed me the brokem mounts but I have not had a chance to get under the car & check. I am going to drive it for a while with the fuse in. Since I have only had it a short time I want to make sure I like the car before I put anymore money into it. It seems to drive & shift fine with the fuse in. I will most likely put in a switch so if I need the AWD I will have it.
  20. Dave, I tool it back to the place that changed the solenoid. They said that the inside of the tranny was very clean. No residual clutch material. They were going to look at it & call me. I will let you know what happens. Thanks.
