  1. Well I have done this before on a 90 legacy. The plugs are a 2 terminal and green in color under the dash , below the steering wheel. Does this not sound correct?
  2. OK so I have a intermittent check engine light . I cleared the codes , since the car is new to me , and drove it around for a day or 2 . the CEL came back. Went to plug the 2 terminals together under the dash and when i put the key into the "on" position. The car starts to go into what seems like a diagnostic cycle. The fans start turning off and on, cooling and heater fans. Starts buzzing, etc. Its a real whacky thing. The check engine light doesnt flash at all, just stays on when its in the retrieval mode. Any ideas? Until I figure it out Ill never be able to retrieve codes.
  3. im just wondering what will fit in the wheel well. Not interfere with the body or suspension.
  4. $200-$300 ? Where ? Id buy one instead of a Tbelt since my engine has 230k miles on it. Im gonna do the repair because a new Tbelt , even if its not as good as a genuine subaru part, is better than a old oil soaked one w/whining idler pulleys.
  5. So then what is the largest tire you can stuff in there in a stock 14" wheel? I have a line on a set of 205/75/14 brand new for $125 + mounting and balance.
  6. Thanx for the info. As far as the kit............. I dont wanna spend a bunch of money on parts when I bought the car for $500. Its just my daily driver/go to the snow rig. Its a disposable car in my book. Not that i wanna loose it, just not putting that much into it. Drive it till ish breaks. Which usually isnt my moto. I like to fix things before they break.
  7. Harbor frieght does? Excellent. With the money saved I will be able to get the proper tools, and harbor frieght is only 1 mile away.
  8. The on ebay is theimportexperts . They are a power seller and there feedback is 99.9%. About 3k feedback and all clutchs and T-belt kits. I think Im going down this road as I have installed alot of Ebay clutchs with good results. The water pump aswell since its a Beck and Arnly and thats what the local shops sell.
  9. All good reasons. I do have a spare car as we are a 3 car family. I have hear alot of discussion about the belts but not about the idlers and such?
  10. Dont like hub caps. Holds all the brake dust on the steel wheels. I drive up to the Mts alot to go snowboarding so I need them not. thanx Ill get pics up soon .
  11. I dont see how these parts are gonna be any different then the Subaru parts since there are only so manufacturers out there. They all use the same supplier and then rebrand them. At least thats how I look at it. Not to mention the costs are cut in half!
  12. I found a deal on Ebay for the following KIT by preferred components, new. Tell me if this sounds good? Kit is for 90-96 Subaru Legacy/Impreza Timing belt (13028-aa102) Timing belt tensioner (13069-aa037) Timing belt idler (2) (13073-aa142) Timing belt idler sprocket (13085-aa010) Shipped to my door for $89 Also found a new beck Arnely water pump for $38 shipped. #131-2102 If these are good deals then Im ordering them up and getting ready to get dirty. Any tricks to getting the main bolt off the crank since i dont have the special tool or the chain wrench?
  13. What seals can I replace while its in the garage? Car has 229k miles and PO , who has had it since day one says she has never had it done.
  14. Alright . Im not paying anybody to work on my car. The Garage is cold but a christmas without presents is even colder. Especially for my 4 yr old if dad spends all the money on the cars. I have done a T-Belt on multi VW and a 1 90 Loyale. Is this the same in the 92 legacy EJ22E motor? Anybody have a link to a walk thru?
  15. Did alittle poking around and found that the spark plugs are new, air filter is new, PVC valve is new. Bolth drive axle boots are cracked. Leaks oil from the t-belt cover . T-Belt is shiny (oil soaked) Makes a whine/howl when the engine is on, comes froma round the A/C compressor /Alternator area. Still a sweet $500 subie!
  16. She did seem like she babied it . She bought a 06 Impreza WRX to replaced it. It was gently driven
  17. Really I havent figured out which synthetic Im gonna use in the MT. I was going to run some Seafoam thru the crankcase for 20 minutes before draining the oil. But I figured I better not shock the engine. Found some 10w30 Dello for the 1st change. Usually I would use 15w40 dello but I will be up in the snowy elevations alot and wanted the thinner oil for the cold starts.
