  1. alright. i got it all fixed today, i managed to find an 88 GL sedan in a junk yard an hour away. sadly the GL said it had a "bad motor" but yet it still ran and drove according to the yard owner. but the body was to far gone with rust. thanks for the replies.
  2. i have a 1990 Loyale... after parking my car at a friends house and coming back out to start it my check engine light was on. i checked the code and it was code 35 for the "purge control solenoid valve"... after looking for a new one on autozone and rock auto websites, they both pull up "idle air control valve"... but after more research i find its the "charcoal canister".... so i need some real help...anyone else have this problem? how do i fix it? and is it the canister or the IAC? thanks for any help.
  3. i got a 1990 Loyale and my wiper switch is kinda broke, the button for the window sprayer is whats actually broke. everything still works except that. i know the turn signals and wiper switch is one piece, but what im really wondering is can i use a switch with intermittent wiper settings? my car has the basic on and off wiper settings, no intermittent. so im wondering is it a plug and play or is there an extra plug for that setup mine wouldn't have like a relay or something? thanks for any help.
  4. I found this old beauty (1983 GL) on accident one day. i had missed my turn and cut through the parking lot of old business that had shut down, after 2 weeks of searching for the owner and found nothing, i had a friend of mine who is a police officer run the plate and nothing showed up cause it hadnt been registered in over 10 years, so he then ran the VIN and bam, got an address of and sent him over to the house and asked the guy if he would sell it and the next day for $300 she was mine. hasn't been on the road or registered since 1995. man said it was his moms car and he never used it cause it was "ugly"... after a gas tank cleaning, all fresh new fluids, gas, cleaning of the carb, plugs wires dis. cap and button she fired right up on the first shot. barely has 100K miles and im the second owner. is it a 5spd, no rust, interior is near mint except two cracks in the dash. this is how i found it the car.
  5. oh im doing it now for sure... i put my gear in from the original trans and after only 15 miles i can see its already trying to start eating this gear. could it be doing that because 3rd slips when going into gear? its not a major slip, very slight slip, you dont feel it if you drive like a 70 year old, only when you really push down on it. maybe even fluid levels in the trans or diff? or is if just f***ed period?
  6. this is my Loyale, shes in way to good of shape to let her go, im keeping her on the road. ive owned this car for 12 years now. i trust this car before any women. lol
  7. Ive never had a problem with the engine, ill swear by an EA82 anyday, just not one mated to a 3AT. So therefore the reason why im going to swap with a manual. Ive owned several subarus, anything from ea81, eg33, er27 and the EA82 is the only one that has never needed even a sensor replaced yet others ive had vacuum leaks and more on, never internal damage just small stuff
  8. Lol, id love to have a legacy. But where im from its rare to see an old subaru, everyone has new ones. I have the only two old ones ive seen with my loyale and 83 gl sedan. Id like to find a 1st gen turbo legacy.
  9. Well thats the thing, i used a tranny from a 85 after my original ones diff gears blew because i didnt know my seals was leaking. I still have my orignal tranny with a perfectly good governor in it i was gonna swap but i wanted to see what causes it before i put it in and ruined that one. But $25 from subaru, i can deal with that for a 3rd replacement before i do the 5spd swap.
  10. Well the loyale was my first car ever and it has alot of value to me being it was my uncles car and he has passed on. Ive rebuilt the motor in it and its been repainted so it looks brand new still so i wanna keep it until i pass or it gets wrecked. Lol
  11. so i have a 1990 Subaru loyale sedan, my original trans diff locked up at 217K, so i got a spare trans from a 85 gl, now at 224K miles the governor in that trans has apple core... i was driving down the road at 45 when it just rev'd up and i lost 3rd gear... first thing i checked the gear and bingo.... needless to say the used transmission did slip going into third a little if you give it throttle... what causes apple coring? i had the car towed home, i have my spare governor from old trans still but i dont wanna put it in if the same thing is gonna happen. any help, thanks in advance. i have a donor that has a bad motor that is 5-speed i was gonna rebuild it but if its major problem ill just do manual swap.
  12. wow, i just went back from page 1 to read on it... amazing job. looks beyond beautiful.
  13. yes, my check engine light went off after showing code 33 for coolant temp sensor. i let the car set for a week after the light came one to fix it, well i decided to start the car yesterday and drive it down the road to it didnt set. well as i go down the road the light goes off and it has yet to come back on, it also stopped the cutting out problem... i never changed the sensor or reset the codes. im still going to replace the sensor but why would it go off?
  14. on my 1990 loyale, the check engine light was on with code 33 for coolant temp sensor.. well i let the car set for a week, i started it and drove it down the road today and the check engine light went off halfway down the road and hasn't come back on since and hasn't been cutting out like it was... weird? I'm still going to replace the sensor but why would it go off? i haven't disconnected battery or cleared the code.
