my guess is at steady speeds or idle is when the pully can move, under load such as accelerating there would be enough resitance to hold it in one position. only the really bad one that was loose enough to feel by hand, (and it set the cel every few minutes) would act up almost constantly.

OK we have fixed this problem on three different 2.5s in the last year all three have had loose front balancers the bolts were tight but bottomed out in crank the key-way and key were worn and had to replace key on all three and new washer and shorten bolt one thread (grinder) the loose balancer causes noise and the knock sensor retards the timing until it missfires and turns on cel. on our 5 speed the retard could be seen on obd!! scanner when pushing in the clutch until it would die

I grind the bolt to make sure it dosent bottom out we found this fix for 3 4 or 1 2 missfire codes by accident have total of 10000 miles on the three with no recurence of problem or cel whe the were turning on cel almod weekly or one daily

this seems related to a problem we have seen a loose balancer knocks slightly causing knock sensor to retard timing until engine dies below is our fix OK we have fixed this problem on three different 2.5s in the last year all three have had loose front balancers the bolts were tight but bottomed out in crank the key-way and key were worn and had to replace key on all three and new washer and shorten bolt one thread (grinder) the loose balancer causes noise and the knock sensor retards the timing until it missfires and turns on cel. I JUST FINISHED THE 5 LUG CONVERSION FOR MY RX I USED A XT6 DONOR CAR AND THE CONVERSION IS GREAT EXCEPT THAT THE FT END IS NOW 1.5 INCHES LOWER. I HAVE E-MAILED THE BACKYARD BOYS TWICE WITH NO REPLY ABOUT THEIR FT. END LIFT BLOCKS DOES ANYONE ELSE MAKE THEM? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS JOE
