  3. i bought my 83 gl for $200 got it running good. i put about $200 into it. replacing the fuel pump, battery and rebuilding the carb and a few other little things. well it lost all its power last winter i figuired i lost a valve. so its been sitting. so i had a garage sale and a guy offerd me $350 as is for it. i wasnt really wanting to sell it but it needs some engine work now plus a wheel bearing and exaust . SHOULD I SELL IT WHILE I CAN???? or is worth keeping?
  4. well i figuired it out. the failure of the asv and the reason it looked so bad was because of a clogged cat. i banged on the cat trying to see if anything losens up and it did for a second, it got real loud. so i put a knotch in it "exaust leak" so i could drive it to get it fixed.i didnt want to drive around with straight pipes. so this weekend should be fun cutting and welding new pipes.

  6. thanks but i dont want to replace anything on the car if i dont need it. what i did read though browsing threw some threads was my car could maybe have 2 asv's? so when i get home im going to check it out. im hoping some one will know exactly what is wrong. the car idles fine but when gas it that theres a bunch of back pressure or something and no power.
  7. so i did the quarter trick and now its really messed up. almost like the exaust is coming up threw the carb and also it sounds like theres an vacume leak coming out of my exaust and it has no power. soo im thinking maybe my cat is plugged. heres some pics of my asv. i was pretty amazed about what ever happend to it. anyways any ideas what the heck is going on? im about to cut the cat off.
  8. thats funny. so cool, easy fix ill do it when i get home. so my next question is should i be worried about it have messing anything up? it did also melt my wire loom so now i have to wrap all the wiring back up individualy. my dash lights didnt come on this morning but my headlights did.
  9. i suggest that anything in southern oregon thats a subaru and needed to be worked on. take it to dhm subaru in medford. dave is the best one out there.
  10. i was driving home and my car smelled much worse then normal. i had to open doors while i was driving. so anyways i open the hood and a plastic chamber looking took melted to this piece. exaust is coming out of it and melting my wire loom. damn it. 83gl wagon carbed
  11. one day i hope to do mine. one mt other subs finally seized and broke but stayed together cause of the axle nut.
  12. ya i think it might be the ignition switch it does seem to have problems but i havent been able to make it work any way other then letting it cool down. it doesnt ever shut down while they r on. just when i turn the car off then on again after being warmed up.
  13. y would my gl warm up with my headlights on. then to lets say i get gas and i go to turn it back on and the headlights wont turn on after i start it but while its cold it doesnt seem to do it. it pisses me off. i can let it cool down and they will turn on.
  14. how do u flush the heater core? my other ea81 was much hotter then this. seems to flow threw ok. i think it could be better but the hottness is warm not really hot. its been 10 to 15 degrees here which i was thinking maybe y but i figuired id ask. thanks

  16. well i checked fusible links for voltage on both sides and i had good voltage. i was thinking of hard wiring them. i havent got that far yet. living in apartments has really disabled my working on anything time. where and which box is the light relay? thanks
  17. u know i didnt try either high low but nothing lit up on the car.
  18. ok so i bought this wagon a while ago i hard wired a new fuel pump then relizing the alternator needs replacing. well anyways the other day i tried turning the head lights on while it was running and they dont turn on. would the bad alternator cause this? only thing i can see phsicaly wrong in the driver side corner light is missing. fuses were good.
  19. i drained it and it doesnt look that bad in there. what i tried putting carb cleaning down the pickup and it still dosnt flow. i started taking the gas off tank off but relized i need to drop the rear end to get it out. i live in apartments so i cant really do to extreme of work in my parking spot. any other ideas of maybe how to get the pickup to start flowing?
  20. that wasnt the reply i was looking for, hehe. so i been reading and a couple people took theres to a radiator shop and had them cleaned out. dang it i just put new gas in it now i have to throw it away.
  21. so i been having problems with power to my fuel pump but now i have my fuel pump pumping i get no fuel comming out of the fuel tank. ok so this what i have done. i took off both fuel lines from the tank and no fuel came out. so i decided to put 5 gallons of gas in the tank incase the gauge isnt working. still nothing comming out. so i stuck a oil dip stick in the spout off the tank and only maybe a 1/4 of it was wet. im puzzled. im mean in reality the whole thing should have be been wet and should have started to pour out if there was something was blocking it.theres over 5 gallons of gas in it. what am i suposed to do? is it posible theres still not enough gas in there? also i stuck a hose into filler to make sure gas was there and able to pump. which worked. please help.
  22. ya i checked the old one. ive been reading in threads for alot of hours and it seems like the box on the hood release should be whats wrong but all the wires are black. theres about 8 of them and about half of them are hot. i bought a multi meter today but i been hanging with the family. so probably tomorrow ill check voltage. do u know which wire in the plug is the fuel pump er tach? i also was going to try to hook up a hot switch just to get the car running. what do u think? the car sat for 10 years and i got it started with starter fluid. it ran nice and smooth but i was hoping the alternator would trigger something to make the tach signal or something work. i just read that in another thread. anyways i guess ill figuire it out tomorrow. oh also theres a box that that says nippin dinzno on it and its light blue. do u know what its for?
  23. also something else kinda wierd is my charge fuse is real real dim with my test light. it looks just like the fuel pump wire when i test it. not sure if theyre related. i read in another thread could be the VR? is that the voltage regulater?
  24. so i bought a new universal elctrical fuel pump. i test the wire to find out which is hot. what i got was no volts till we let off the cranking then my light lit up. now id run wires to it but i know its not suposed to be on until you r cranking. so anyways im kinda lost on what i should be looking for or to bypass. it doesnt make sence, oh and the fuse is good.
  25. i keep forgeting to come on here and post these. i saw this on christmas day in front of a bar so i used phone camera. i dont come on here much anymore since i have new subaru.
