Yeah I considered an OEM gauge as it would match my interior and light up the same as my other gauges, but like SAMO said, I question the accuracy of stock gauges, plus I have to wonder what kind of price Subaru would want for thier stock gauge. An aftermarket one maybe more affordable/accurate. Thanks for the link kevinsUBARU, I will check that out as soon as I'm done here! Spacinjason:burnout:

Quote: Over a distance, this can result in the internals of the transmission actually melting. (seen it on a Dodge Dakota that was towed with wheels down) I actually had an '01 Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 MT with LSD rearend that I traded in on my '06 Baja Turbo MT. It had a button on the 4WD switch that you had to push in with a pen or something (so you wouldn't hit it on accident, kind of like setting cetain watches) that would put the transfer case in neutral for towing. This was so you could tow it behind a motorhome or whatever with no drivetrain damage. Pretty good idea in my opinion. You just had to remember to take it out of nuetral when you wanted to drive, or you would go no where! Too bad Subaru didn't do the same! Maybe they couldn;t due to the AWD being different then the 4WD system on the Dakota? Or maybe the neutral switch only came with the 4WD on the Dakota's and not the 2WD. Not sure. All I know is that just to be on the safe side, if I ever need to have my Subaru towed, I'm going to make sure it's on a trailer. Better safe them sorry! Hopefully it will never need to be towed! Just wanted to say that this is an awesome site, and the members here seem very knowledgable and helpful. I've enjoyed visiting this site everyday, and have learned lots about my Subaru since joining this site! Thanks to everyone for being so helpful! I look forward to visiting this site for many years to come. Spacinjason:burnout: PS- How do you quote phrases from other posts? [/b]

Thanks for the responses guys. I was just kind of surprised that a gauge was not offered as an option in my Baja turbo. If I ever did get one installed, it would be mainly for the 'coolness' factor. I plan on leaving my rig pretty much stock and don't really care about gas mileage(as long as I'm getting around 20 mpg I'm happy). If I cared about mpg, I would quit driving with a heavy foot! How difficult is it to install a turbo boost gauge? Any recommendations on a certain brand? I would like to have one that compliments the interior and doesn't look out of place. Also one that lights up the same color as the rest of the gauges. Thanks in advance for any replies! Spacinjason:burnout:

I recently purchased a '06 Baja Turbo. It has no boost gauge, and I didn't see one as an option. I noticed that you can buy one from Subaru, but it seems strange to me that it was not standard equipment on a turbo (or at least offered as an option). Is this true for all Subaru turbo's? I know some of you guys have installed them, but did any of the WRX or STI's come equipped with a boost gauge? I mean my old '85 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe had a factory boost gauge! Also, is it worth it to buy an aftermarket gauge and install it? I mean I know it has a certain 'coolness' factor;)! How many PSI of boost should my Baja be running, and any recommendations on a gauge? If I got one, what kind of 'range' should I look for on the gauge? Also, how difficult is installation, and any advice on installation location? I saw someone had installed one on the steering coulmn, but it seemed like it blocked the view of some of the gauges on the right side. Thanks in advance for any respose! Spacinjason:burnout:

Welcome to the board! I purchased my first Subaru about a month ago. 2006 Baja Turbo MT. Love it! Watch that you don't drive around with a low tire too long as that can also mess things up. Your wheels all need to be the same size, so check your tire pressure now and then. A slow leak could wreak havoc on your AWD. Have fun! Spacinjason

Thanks for the responses. I first discovered the 'problem' after I had a spare key made and checked to see if it worked in door and ignition. I have since discovered that if you set off the alarm, you can put key in ignition and turn on and off three times. That will turn alarm off. It does seem like a strange design:confused: Spacinjason

:-\ I recently bought an '06 Baja, and have a question regarding the alarm. When I lock the vehicle, it activates the factory alarm. If I attempt to unlock the vehicle using the key in the door (instead of the remote fob) the alarm goes off when I open the door. It will not go off if I use the remote fob. Is there a way to change the alarm 'setting' so that when I lock the vehicle (activating the alarm in the process), I can still use my key manually in the door lock without setting off alarm? I would like to have my alarm active, but would like to be able to manually unlock door without setting off the alarm! I read the owners manual, and found how to deactivate the alarm completely, but I still want my alarm to be active. I couldn't find anything regarding manual key entry without setting off alarm. Anybody have a clue as to how to get around this problem, or is this just the way it's going to be? Another question- I notice that the doors don't automatically lock when starting up and driving vehicle. Seems odd as my last 3 vehicles would lock when started (anti car jack protection). They were Dakota pickup, Mazda Protege, and Toyota Camry. Seems strange that Subaru (suppose to be some of the safest cars made) does not lock when started or start driving. Is there a way to set it up to lock when started? Thanks in advance for any response, I appreciate it! Spacinjason

By the way, Isn't there a distillary in Hood River? Seems like I remember drinking thier vodka when I was in high school! TIA! Spacinjason

So I took my new Baja on it's first trip this week. I did almost 500 miles roundtrip up and back the 101 Coast Hwy in Oregon. What an awesome rig to travel in! Ran great, plenty of power (had to set the cruise control so I wouldn't go to fast and get a ticket!). The few times I did pass someone the power in this vehicle is so readily available it almost seemed effortless! I got 22 mpg, and just turned 1k on the odometer. I'm happy with that mileage as I was driving a Dakota Quad Cab with a V8 before this rig and only got about 14-16mpg in that beast! Question- does anyone think that the mileage will get even better as the engine breaks in? It's hard to keep your foot out of the Baja as it is so fun to drive, so I could probably get better mileage if I drove a bit more mellow. I had my wife and kids with me, so we put all our luggage in big rubbermaid containers and strapped them down in the back so nothing would get wet. Sure was nice having the open back to toss the kids sand toys and beach stuff in and not have to worry about getting sand all over my interior! One thing I noticed is that everywhere I went people would stare at the Baja. Don't know if it was because they liked it or thought it was ugly! I like it and that's what counts! My only complaint about the vehicle (very minor), is the cupholder. Anything larger then a soda can will get in the way when you're trying to shift! I just started putting my beverage in the back seat cupholder. Problem solved! Spacinjason

Thanks for the responses guys. I don't plan on changing the stereo, I'm fairly pleased with the one that is in the car. I was just curious as to what company manufactured it. I got the factory 6 disc stacker with 6 speakers and it sounds fine to me! I'm actually pleased with how it sounds! Spacinjason

I had my '06 Baja Turbo up tp 110 mph last week. Felt like it had a lot left, but had to get off of it as I started to approach traffic and didn't feel comfortable driving that fast around other drivers. It's one thing if I crash and hurt myself, but I'm not going to risk the safety of other drivers! Anyone know if these vehicles have speed limiters and what speed they top out at? My last truck was a Dakota, and it was limited to 115 mph, then the speed limiter would kick in. Spacinjason

Hey all- I just bought an '06 Baja, and was comparing it to my nieghbors '03 Baja and had a question regarding his truck. His seats are black leather or vynil around the edges (like mine), but whereas mine are a cloth type material in the center his is a perforated grey vynil or leather. Does anyone know if it is actually leather? Did they ever come with grey vynil in the middle? I had read that when the Baja first came out for '03 that they had leather seats standard (until the 'sport' model came out). Any help would be appreciated. I told him I would try to find out for him if it was leather or not. Thanks in advance for any replies. Spacinjason
