  1. Did my lights this weekend. Pretty easy, but patience required to get everything to fit back together just right. The radio shack bulbs ( #7219) worked just fine and are easy to thread into the subie sockets. It's like replacing a mini christmas light bulb. I did wreck one of the little green condoms that go over the bulbs...but that doesn't seem to make to huge a difference. Here's the link to the earlier thread that was mentioned above, there's pictures even at one of the links on page 4. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2498&page=1&pp=10&highlight=Climate+Control+Backlights (I hope it works...if not do the search suggested above.) My '95 was a little different than the ‘97 pictured. It required unscrewing the circuit board to get at the bulbs. Anyhow.... Thx all... and cheers!
  2. My 2 cent.... I used to be skeptical about the need for (4) matching (meaning tread and wear as well as size) tires, until I got to experience missing AWD. Once I saw the puny clutch they have to transfer power to the rear I became a believer. My experience with GL and Gen 1&2 Legacy is that it ain’t worth the time to turn the rotors. Aftermarket ones are about $25/per for the fronts here, and about $18 for the pads, so $75 bucks plus an hour labor and yer good to go. Turned rotars ( mine anyway) start to pulse about the 2nd time you apply the binders. We have more Subies registered in VT than any other car, so non-dealer Subie specialist shops are fairly common. 'Course that's no help to you in VA. Cheers!
  3. Manna-cabanna.... I don't think I'll ever get over what a great site this is!!!! Look at this, someone asks a question and within minutes (well a few minutes) an answer and a photo!!!! Truly awe inspiring! Cheers! ...and subie on! Kudd
  4. Hey Holly... sweeeeeet that ya got a brand new mill in the beast! Man..if I could just get a new body for mine I'd deal with the old mill! About oil overfilling... I've always thought that it's a good way to blow seals, but have never heard of any other damage caused by it. cheers all! kudd
  5. Hey Ryan, There's a few yards I hit up... results vary. Rathe in Colchester, B&M in Milton, J&A in Charlotte. You can also get parts from Juction Auto, New Haven (used to be Jct Subie...they have quite a stash and don't rape ya too bad) and Auto Creek in Vergennes. I can give ya phone numbers if ya want. Where in NY?...and that's quite a commute! I spend alot of time in Essex County on my bike in the summer...great roads and reasonable speed limits! Cheers! Kudd
  6. Not that I want to have a picnic or anything... but seems like there's gotta be some other Subie addicts in the early stages of Green Mountain Shack Wack floating around in here. Always good to know locals with the same affliction! Cheers! Kudd
  7. I had this exact same problem w/my '90 2.2L. ( I don't know what motor number...can't figure out where you find that.) I replaced t-stat, (old one seemed to work properly,) hot top hose, cold cap and bottom hose...same deal. When it first happened I drove it home, by starting, going as fast as I could before it started to overheat, then shutting down and coasting. Did this a few times, sitting beside the road between bursts while it cooled. The last time...all of the sudden heat from vents, guage went down to normal, so I just drove home with t-stat failure implanted in my brain. This happened again after I put the new t-stat in, which I checked and it too worked. So I drove for awhile with no t-stat, little->no heat but I guess that keeps the bubbles from blocking off the circulation. Anyhow, it ended up being head gaskets, (replaced, all's well now). And I also couldn't see steam in the exhaust, or even smell the sickly-sweet anti-freeze smell, or any sign of it leaking outside...but it was going somewhere for sure! Good luck and cheers! Kudd
  8. Wow...$2700???? I friend and I just did head gaskets on my 2.2L.. It was under $200 for the valve cover gaskets and head gaskets. Took us about 5 hours to do. Had just done the t-belt/pump/seal thing 2 weeks before...so was a drag to take apart again, but it came apart easy! So let's see.. $2700-$200=$2500.../5=$500/hr. woweeee! Course that wasn't a 2.5....but yikes! Cheers! Kudd
  9. Here's a WAG (wild rump roast guess) from somebody who knows nothing..... It's is possible that they drained the oil, put on filter, went on coffee break, came back, took car off lift and drove it out, with 0 oil. Then said oops and added the oil, but the damage had been done. It wouldn't be the first time that ever happened for sure. So, the subie guy listed "running out of oil" as (1) the the (2) possible causes. I'm guessing he was right. Good luck! Kudd
  10. Wow...tons of info I guess!!! Guess I have a new project. Thx lots...and cheers! Kudd
  11. I've only seen (2) turbo sedans w/5spd in Vermont. There is/was one...rather rough.. was going for auction here once they got paperwork. This was 3-4 weeks ago and may be gone now. They said they had a ton of interest in it, but being the auctioneers they would say that. If ya want try http://www.thcauction.com. There's contact info there and you could ask if they still have it. Speakin' of 5 speeds... how rare are they in LS sedans? My '90 AWD, suffering from northeast cancer syndrome, is getting ripe in spots. I'd love to find a clean one from the south or west, but they don't seem too plentiful. Cheers! Kudd
  12. Hi- I have a ‘95 LS wagon. I’m wondering about the lights for the heater controls. There are little lights that work under the control buttons, but the buttons themselves don’t light up like they do in my older ( ‘90 and ‘93) ones. Is that normal? I’d rather know if there’s something to fix before I take the dash apart. Thx and cheers! Kudd
