  1. Gash dang it... I may have ta show just to meet some of the fine people from this site in person. Maybe I'll bring Spot (cancer victim) and fake like it's lifted! Seahag.. I'm not real familiar w/ East Burke, but being in the Kingdom you may have a tough time finding much for shopping. Can always just cruise a enjoy scenery, and there's gotta be tons of back/dirt roads that any soob w/air in it's tires wouldn't even notice. Moosens has the right idea about swimming in the Kingdom in September. Can you say S-H-R-I-N-K-A-G-E!!! As I said, I'll stay tuned. Cheers all!!!
  2. Yep, yer spam job worked. I don't Mt bike and I'm not lifted, so most likely wouldn't show... but given the right date and alignment of stars..... I'll stay tuned.
  3. Hmmm... my new '90 has the "blows when it wants" problem. Always works when cold, then quits later and runs intermittantly after that. Kinda sucked coming cross country in storms! Anyhow, I'll try the resistor trick. Thx!
  4. My local indy shop stocks the bushings, which makes me think it must be common. Must be most people running automatics so they don't have to deal with this?
  5. Back to mileage... coming cross country in the ‘90 2.2 sedan I got around 30mpg when running in the high elevations...Nevada Rt50 with 7000' passes and into Denver with 11,000' passes. Then when I got to the flat lands (Nebraska->east) it went down to about 28mpg. I woulda thought the higher elevations with less oxygen woulda produced the lower mpg. Wrong again! Also we paid $2.57 for gas in San Fran, but most was $2.10-ish, 2 weeks ago.
  6. Nope... didn't help. The bushings I need to replace are gotten at from underneath. The bolt that slides through them has to slide over the drive shaft cone, so it's at an angle which makes it very hard to slide back in once the new bushings are in place. I'm wondering if people drop the drive shaft or what? We ended up grinding part of the bolt head and the collar part of the bolt off to get it back in...with two of us prying and wacking and... Thx!!!
  7. Does anybody have any hints for replacing the shifting linkage bushings in a ‘90 Legacy? We just did one and had a helluva time getting the bolt back through. I’ve got another one to do and am pretty sure there must be a trick to it...which I’d truly love to know before I start! I did a search but couldn't find much about it. Thanks!!
  8. Ok...so the 154k 2.2 (I still don't know the EAxx designations...) that I just bought had 5-50 Mobil 1 in it in Portland OR for the past 5 years. Would there be any harm done to switch back to 10-30 or 10-40 dino goo? Or is that a bad no-no and I need to stick with the M1? And..I don't even know if M1 is full synth or semi. After the 4725 mile trip home I'm due for a change...except of course w/the M1 in it can s'posedly go longer. Also, it did run low so I put a half quart of Penzoil in. Was all they had where I was and I figured that any oil was better than none.:-\
  9. Wow... I missed a lot of the last posts. Moosens and Mudrat... I missed the part about the wheels. To be honest, I probably wouldn’t have picked ‘em up anyhow as we were kinda packed with camping gear/warm clothes/cooler etc in case of break down, plus needing room to sleep in car should need arise. Yeah, I know...I suck! Anyhow...tons of thanks to all of you who offered to help us should the need arise. Car ran like a champ. (Would expect nothing less...it’s a Subie after all!) Nothing like a 4725 mile shakedown cruise! Went through Moab during the "Jeep Safari". Holey stinkin’ lotta jeeps!! And not a single lifted Subie!! We went to the bottom of the Shafer Trail at Canyonlands in the stocker...only scraped bottom twice! Came back out in a hail storm and never slipped a wheel in that nice red mud. Must be either the AWD works or we didn’t need it! Only problem we had was the heater fan that worked on it’s own schedule. Kinda sucked, cause it had punched out when we went over Donner Pass in snowstorm, forcing us to press on a little quicker than we had hoped, and then of course was off the clock again during snowstorm in Buffalo. I need to do a search and see if there’s any info about what to target when trying to fix it. I’m guessing a relay. Also need to research the Mobil 1 vs. regular oil issue. I never used M1 but that’s what the guy I bought it from had been using...and I’m due for an oil change. Anyhow thanks again to all of you!!!
  10. MY HERO!!! Thanks for the link. Do you know if you can find the EAXX designation stamped on the engine anywhere?
  11. You got that right turbone. And if ya go south alot of them are FWD. There's at least 4 small used dealers in northern VT that have agents buying for them from the south. Of course, nobody in their right mind would do what I'm doing for a 15 year old car w/156k on the clock.... but being a subie junkie the "right mind" issue was settled a long time ago! Not to mention the great trip we're gonna have coming home! Still would like a contact east of the rockies if anybody out there might be willing to lend a garage or a tool or two should the need arise...??? Cheers!
  12. Thx mudrat! If all goes as planned we'll be touring down the coast south outta P-land. But...plans have a way of changing sometimes, so thanks a ton for the offer!!!!
  13. ...all the EAxx numbers? You know, EA81, EA82 etc etc. What the heck do they all mean? I've searched for a thread but find nothing. I'm ignorant about alot..so thought I'd maybe could take one thing off the list!!!
  14. Looks like we'll be in good shape as long as any problems that want to happen occur before Reno. After that we're on our own! I forsee no problems tho....we are gonna be in a Subie! Hitting the highway tomorrow am..thanks to those who offered support!
  15. Hey Jibs- We'll be on RT50, which looks about 50-60 miles south of you. If you'd PM me yer # tho, I'd love to have it just in case. If lifes good, we'll just give ya a yell and say cheers as we boogie on east. Thx!
  16. This isn’t really meet and greet... but we’re (me and son) flying to Portland, picking up an AWD sedan and road tripping back to VT. The car is supposedly good, but has 156k on the clock. Anyhow, from Portland we’re gonna head south down the coast to San Fran, then take a left on I-80, find Rt 50 near Sacramento (maybe geta peek at the Governator!!!), through Nevada to Utah, go to Moab, visit Arches, then west on I-70 to Denver, up to I-80 and boogie east to I-90 through NY and home. So, if anybody along that route would be willing to have us call ya in case we need a garage/tools for some reason I’d love to get yer phone number. My AAA will tow me 100 miles. We'll have limited toolage with us, what with flying out and all. We'll be leaving Portland on 3/16 or 17. Figure it'll take us 5-6 days to get to Moab. You can lemme know at kudd@hotmail.com ...phone numbers, if ya think I'm outta my tree, or whatever. Other than that...yeeehaw!!!
  17. I'm wondering if anyone near Portland would be willing to check out a Subie I'm thinking of buying?? Would need to be ASAP unfortunately, like today or tomorrow. THX!
  18. I'm no expert.... but I'd put a little in the overflow, up to where it has the full line, tho you're probably ok because I don't think the recovery system ever works. The big deal is bleeding it to be sure the radiator is actually full. That's the little black plastic screw looking thing on the right side (left as you face it) Take that out, then when ya fill it the air can escape so you'll know it's really full. Next trick is to find where it's coming from. Small drip in middle could mean seeping water pump. Good luck.
  19. Ok...so it was 25 minutes. Still way cool!!! And that is a great site you linked me to!!! I have a 90 LS sedan w/5 speed, which I've discovered is rather rare. It's getting Green Mountain Cancer, so I've been looking for replacement. I see that 5 speeds weren't even offered in the LS after 91. No wonder I'm having a hard time finding another one!!!! (Anybody know of one for sale???) One thing they don't mention (or I didn't see) in the list is the variable speed feature for the intermittent wipers that the LS has. They should all have that! Thanks again everybody here!!!
  20. Ya gotta love this site!!! What was that...10 minutes maybe and my question was answered! Thx, kevinsUBARU!!!!
  21. I'm just curious what the deal is with this. How are they different than a Legacy L? Thx!
