  1. I think the scoop is fake on the 98 (and others?) Legacy GT. I think under/behind the scoop it's just a dummy panel... If so, is there anything that can be done to make the scoop perform a function like cooling assist, more air intake, etc? I read the 2.5's phase 1 have the head gasket problem so was wondering if there could be any help in that area by doing something with that scoop... <edit> Reading similar threads, seems like there is nothing...surprising someone hasn't been able to come up with a hose kit/filter that can reroute the air "somewhere"!! </edit>
  2. Looked real good overall....some more dings than I was hoping to see, but no rust... I will also have a soobie mech check out the car.
  3. well, the 98 looks pretty good....I did notice a few small things so will have a soobie mechanic check it out. The 93 was a letdown. The paint looked very nice, if one could see through the dirt....engine seemed to have a lot of power, but didn't look as nice as it could...check engine light was on....the interior was still not so good....He should not have had me see it in that condition...needed finishing and a good detail. So down to 1 now...
  4. very good all...thanks! I fugured for an 8 yr old car, 60K or so is pretty low mileage - but I will ask how far and where the commute was to/from... They rated the exterior as an "8" when I asked to rate 1-10, 10 being mint....we'll see!
  5. Good points! The car is a 98 Legacy GT Ltd. sedan....60K miles I will find out where in VA they were (she did say it was a very short commute to work and as the car only has 60K....that's a good sign!). oh yea, and their cell phone number (that they have kept) is a 703 area code...North... bummer
  6. Anyone have experience with cars driven in VA? I have an opp to buy a Soobie today and found out the car was bought/driven in VA until last month when they moved out here. So I am concerned about things like rust and other environmental factors, not really knowing such for cars in VA. Anyone with quick info (I'll be leaving in a few hours to see it). Of course I can look at the car but may not catch it if it's small enough, or only rusts in the left clavicle of the clamish strut switch :-p ..
  7. washers are pretty kewl, but I'd really be impressed if I saw wipers too :-p
  8. thanks! Yes, it is auto... When you say the "back edge" are you referring to the front of the car (most away from me if sitting in the driver seat) or rear of the car? Will look tonite when I get home....last thing I need to do is break my wife's brand new car!
  9. I want to remove the center console trim in an 06 Forester to be able to remove the lighter/ashtray piece. I installed a backup sensor and want to install the display there. I will grab power from the lighter and place the display in the ashtray opening....so the cover door will still be able to close. Once I remove the ashtray assy (not the ashtray itself, what it slides into), I will carve it up to accept the lcd display! Can anyone "show me the way"? thx...
  10. He has an "assy line" where they take out the motor from the car, separate it in half and redo ALL (according to him). He has a guy that's all he does, engine rebuilds....he also has a mechanic and a body/paint guy....
  11. did you mean you ran 15-50 synthetic? Did you have to do anything (some type of flush, etc) before switching from standard to synthetic oil?
  12. I thought so a bit....but then a complete rebuilt motor with no miles, custom paint (if I didn't mention that, it was repainted...candy apple red first coat, winestone second coat, clear third coat), underside parts like struts, cv, wheel bearings, etc replaced....and a 1 year warranty (will be written)....new tires and rims... I priced a 93 turbo pp here in the seattle area to be about 3K for excellent condition....so....... I think part of the decison will be easier (a) the 98 may not be available ( when I see the 93, it may be immaculate looking in and out, which would make the decision easier... Also just saw a 98 Legacy GT ltd, w/64K...he's asking 9K....
  13. ahhh....that could help. I can measure voltage if I can find the pin. Assuming the connector has to be connected? In any case, is that pin I or O ? On the page you noted, the info for B46 pin 6 is noted as "Signal (-)". Without the legend, don't know...it sounds like a signal in? I will check....and report back.
  14. yes, the guy that has the 93 owns a suby repair shop and will cover it fully for 1 year....
  15. A possible tough upcoming choice for me (no, I can't buy both!)...one may not be available anyway. 1993 Legacy Turbo, auto, generally excellent/mint, rebuilt engine, many new parts and assys, 161K - cost about $6K w/1 yr warranty or 1998 GT Ltd with 60K, very nice condition. auto, will cost about $8.5K
  16. thx all, I will try and tackle this weekend... And to Manarius: not that I want manual mode, just curious about everything on the car...I like all to work....besides (a) getting all kinds of conflicting info so it seems many do NOT understand it either ( maybe it's detramental in MPG or similar... I will try the shifting from a stop while in manual mode 3 (versus in normal drive mode). Will also venture to Legacy777's thoughts on wiring (if not too complicated and easy to get to)!! Again, thanks and any new thoughts appreciated!!
  17. 93 Legacy (it's noted in my info on the right side!) OK, will try (but hard to get to 80 in this area!) If it does NOT work, what are the things I could check (e.g. a fuse, codes, etc)? But instead of flooring it, could I tell by generally driving from a stop? If in 2nd gear, would the car be sluggish off the line? and if in drive, wouldn't it move to second anyway, maybe at about 15 or 20 mph? But I think it would be nice to have a "no doubt" way to check like a blown fuse (or bad indicator light)! Thanks.........
  18. OK, I've read about manual mode and from what I gather it only works in 3 and 2. The problem on my daughter's car - If in one of those drive modes, the manaul light never comes on. I can't say I notice any difference in driving if in manual mode and 3, for example. Assume it could be a burned out indicator? Is it possible for the manual mode NOT to work? I had the tranny fluids, gasket and filter changed (the light out was there before this, too). Is it easy to remove the instrument cluster? Or is there a foolproof way to check if manual mode is working (or not)?
  19. Get an SVX and you'll be close in the "head turning" contest!
  20. yup...I thought if one uses quotes, it would capture in between the quotes, but now i don't think so...
  21. The owner won't go below $13,000 I just don't think it's worth that price. I thought I was nice offering $9K He must think he can hold out. :-\
  22. yow......that does not sound good or promising! Figure I couldn't go too wrong with one that has <30K on it....until I read your reply! Do you drive it hard?
  23. I'm unsure too....but I have a possible lead on a mint condition, garaged 1996 svx with less than 30K on it....may be too good to pass up, if I can get it at the right price.
  24. I did a search for SVX and did not find anything here (expected that on legacycentral, but figured this was a model nonspecific board!!).... I've been thinking of a Legacy, but have seen some SVX's...they look really nice and still have all features I desire (AWD, Boxxer engine, etc)... Of course I think gas mileage is not too good (but the Legacy I am thinking of is a 93 Turbo, so how much worse can it be?). Anyone have any experience (good or bad) with the SVX and care to share?? thx...jeff
