Hi, What I think is the resonator has a few wholes in it and I am wondering what it is exactly. It is after the first catalitic converter and is the second devise on the system right under the stick shifter. Can anyone verify this

Long leg modification?
nathan.chase replied to nathan.chase's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
did you have to replace the seat or the seat rail and the seat? -
I have a friend who is looking for a car but he is over 6'6" and doesn't fit my 87 gl wagon very well. Anyone have ideas as to modifications that could/have been done? do other models have more leg room or are Japanese engineers just too short!?

Hi all, I am thinking of trying to speed up my wipers. Someone spoke of regrounding my wiper motor and cleaning up connections. right now my connector has this white grease in it. is this likely to be a conductive grease or should i clean this out and use some deoxit spray. secondly, I was also told to remove the motor assembly and grease the motor and gears. is this a long job, simple? complicated? and what grease would I use.

I am thinking about what to lube my tire beads with when installing. This isn't somethign I do often so getting a dedicated lube itsn't economical. I was thinking that engine oil is likely to be acidic so not a good rubber match. what about just regular cooking oil? Perhaps I could use a grease that would also work for something else life diff oil or bearing grease. any ideas or should I just bust out my olive oil and be done with it? -nate

exaust/muffler/horse power
nathan.chase replied to nathan.chase's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well I would agree but eventually I would have to put the cat back in to pass smog (CA car). also I would want to keep the car from being a gross polluter so I had sort of eliminated cat removal as an option. Thanks for the wiper info though! -
Hi all, I have an 87 d/r 4wd 5sp. I believe this is the EA82 right? anyways I am wondering about giving her a little extra power. I heard that the muffler is a bad bottleneck. Suggestions as to what to look at doing? Muffler? full exaust? focus on engine bay (electric fan, power steering pump etc.). on a side not: my windshield wipes don;t have intermittent and are rather slow, is this a relay thing or motor dying, or do subies just have slow rump roast wipers?

Good Tire's for an 87
nathan.chase replied to nathan.chase's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I dicided to buy some Yokohama IG10 Iceguards tires from discounttiredirect.com. They were helpful and gave me an $10 warranty for any damage excluding vandalism or mechanical failure of the car. even offroad travel! get that! anyways, I also got some tire spoons on the way:) so I can change everything myself. I will hopefully get some spair rims or something and just set up a summer winter set. I am heading up to Canada soon so I'll tell you how the tires do as well as how hard it is to change a tire with leverage and brute force. -

Thanks for the help. I saw some decent stuff from tirerack.com and it seems walmart only has one tire for my size vehicle. anyone know how well snow tires do in rain? When I head to the mountain I hit snow but otherwise I am in rainy condition for the most part. -

what's wally world? -
I had my Gl out in some snow today and it was rocking along with all the trucks and SUV's. Granted it was being pushed around my the wider wheel bases of the previous vehicles, the car is a tank . Anyways, apart from loving the D/R 4wd in the snow, a tire blew out on the highway back to civilization. I was wondering what are the good tires for my sub? I will be into some snow but also do a fair amount of highway miles. any good snow/highways tires or is it "one or the other". Thanks, Nathan (arcata, california)

Hey all, I have an 87 gl wagon 5sp and it is rather noisy at higher speeds. I was wondering if anyone had tried to quieten the ride up on these awesome vehicles? some of the things I was thinking about targeting due to seeing other cars and listening to mine are: Wirewall floor mats stick shift wheel well headliner I have a leak in my reasonator but I can't imagine that is creating that much noise. Any ideas as to what material I might use and what I might target first. thanks kindly! Nate

I assume replacement of the end can be done by simply tightening the bolt down? -
Tricks on Pulling a tierod
nathan.chase replied to nathan.chase's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
that is what I thought I would do. adding wood is a good addition if the wood still transnsmitts the power from the hammer instead of absorbing the energy. thanks all, nate -

nathan.chase replied to nathan.chase's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks. I will have to look into that but it seems like that is a lot of replacement parts for just the tie rod or are you saying just remove everything to make life easy? -nate
