  1. when I put it on I checked and double checked and spent almost 2 hrs on it... it's right....
  2. I well it was constantly over heating..... but yeah it had power enough
  3. Thanks everyone, it turned out to be a leaking air between the intake manifold and the heads so took the intake off again and put silicone on and now it's good..... except now I have this problem... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=601145#post601145
  4. Has anyone heard or done it? put a diesel motor of some kind a legacy? maybe off a VW I dunno what's your guy's thoughts?
  5. Ok I've replaced the heads and gaskets because of a overheating problem so now I've replaced the water pump, T-stat (genuine Subaru t-stat) and took the car for a spin and now it has no power it almost sounds like someone put a plug on the exhaust.... and also just in a 1/2 mile drive the temp guage went to the red.... so what to do now? BTW how does that t-stat work? it seems to me it should be on the other side of the motor because hot water isn't going to go down to the bottom it's going to go up to the other side and if hot water makes it's way down there and the t-stat does open soon as cold water from the rad hits it it's going to shut down and the engine will still have Hot water in it... :-s I asked subaru about it and they seemed offended that I would even question them. so maybe one of you guys can help explain how it works... thanks
  6. ok I think I found it... looked in the Haynes manual so on the pass side right back from the coil and down there is a hose that goes into something and that hose goes to the air intake line.... so is that the right one? if so yes it's connected
  7. Hummm I'm not sure where the Idle Air control motor is.... what does it look like? and as far as I know I got everything hooked back up I don't see any loose hoses or anything and I marked everything with a paint pen to make sure everything went back together the same.... is this thing under the intake manifold?
  8. ok now I got this prob http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=600863#post600863 ..... :-s
  9. my head gaskets were leaking so I took them off and got a good deal on a set of heads so I pulled the cam and stuff off the old heads put them in the new heads put it all back together and now when I start it it goes RevVvvvvvvv up to about 3500 RPM then comes back down and then really really rough idle and the whole motor shakes really wildly then it will die unless I give it some gas then it will spike back up and repeat the process I can't really keep it at a idle and if I can manage to do that it's sooo horrible... so what should I start with? or what did I do wrong.... I didn't adjust the valves.... would that cause this prob? Thanks so much Jonathon PS it's a 1990 Legacy 5 spd Manual
  10. I had a little allen key in there holding it together and I released it once and the marks were one notch off so I took it apart again and compressed that tensioner and then when I tried to pull that key out the little bit of metal just went Bang! and it released it of course thankfully the timing was right that time so I left it be
  11. I don't know if this is the right forum or not but .... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Timing-Belt-Tensioner-Adjuster-Subaru-Impreza-Legacy_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33625QQihZ016QQitemZ260108621027QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW that thing there, is there any modification to that tensioner/pulley? I really don't like the setup. it's so hard to get it all in there right.... there's got to be a better way.... any ideas? I was putting mine back in today and the little hole where you put a pin in broke so now I gotta buy a new one next time I take it off Thanks! Jonathon
  12. Hello guys, This is my first post here. I hope this is the right forum for this. Anyway here is my question. I have a 91 Subaru Legacy that I bought May of this yr, and now the head gasket is blown because there is exhaust gas in the coolent and it always overheats and so I drive it around with the rad cap loose. How hard is it to change the head gasket's? anything I should know before I dive into it? Thanks a bunch
