  1. there is a 96 outback at the wrecking yard but it has the smaller ej22 motor.will the ecu work out of that?i know with some gm s the ecu s where interchangable but you had to change the prom.
  2. i opened up the ecu and it looked good,i didnt see any fried parts.what about the fuel pump regulator could it be that?
  3. i checked the wires while cranking it over and still no power from those wires.i will try and make a noid light to see if any power is going to the injectors.
  4. i checked the yellow violet and yellow blue wire going to the ignitor with the key turned on there was no power on the test light. There was power to the red green wire and blue wire going to the ignitor.
  5. i checked the fuel pump relay and it has power with the key turned on,tomorrow i will see if the computer is getting power.i took the covers off the computer and it looked good inside.
  6. i checked the fuses and all are good.im now thinking the computer might not be any good.
  7. my friend just came over and hooked his obd2 scanner up to the car and there was no power to his scanner from the ALDL,also when i turn on the car the check engine light does not come on and it should when starting it.does this sound like a bad ecu?
  8. i took the cam sensor out and put the meter leads across the 2 terminals and got a 2.021 k ohms resistance, does this seem acceptable?
  9. i put on the new timingbelt and it still wont start. tomorrow i will get anouther coil becuase there was no spark.could the ignitor cause it not to fire?
  10. i took off the timing covers and it looked like the belt jumped.im going to get a new belt.what arethe chances that the valves whre bent?should i putthe belt on and see what happens?
  11. i am going to double check the timing belt before i get a coil.they want 45 for a used i and 110 for a new 1.there is alot of subarus in the pic and pulls but they are all 2.2 motors and smaller.the 2.5 motors are rare.
  12. there was oil in the timing cover,im not sure when the belt was replaced last last,i bought the car at 240,000 miles and now it has 245000
  13. i will take off all the covers tommorow,i also used the old timing belt since it looked good.the oil leak is coming from one of the cam seals,i tried to fix it before but it has been leaking again.i need to get the car going before it starts raining again, ive had to ride the motorcycle till the car gets fixed.
  14. i took off the timing cover on one side and the belt was not broke.I did the headgaskets about 5000 miles ago.the car has been leaking about a quart of oil every week and a half.
  15. I was coming home the outher day and my 96 outback with 245,000 miles died at the intersection and wouldnt start back up.I checked the fuelpump and it was working but i wasnt getting any spark.I checked the coil and the primary resistance was a little high and the secondary was within range.is there a way to check the ignitor and will a 2.2 coil and ignitor work on a 2.5 motor?
  16. I took the exhaust from the back cat to the heads off.I didnt know if the bung could be welded on,looks like the old one was soldered on.
  17. I was taking my O2 sensor out of my 96 outback and the bung that holds the O2 sensor in came out,has anyone ever had this happen to them and can a new bung be welded in to the catalitic converter or do i have get a whole new catalitic converter?
  18. My 96 2.5 has 241,000 miles on it and ill be rebuilding it in the spring .The wrecking yard here wants $1350 for a used one,for the money they want you could get a rebuild kit and put it together youreself with money left over.I just have to make my motor last through the winter.
  19. I only change the catalitic coverter if it fails smog check.I have also gutted out the cat when it has gotten plugged up ,it gave it more performance but made the car louder.I would probally change the o2 sensor with that many miles on it.
  20. i used some cheap aftermarket head gaskets on my 2.5 and there holding up fine.i doubt its the headgasket.
