  1. on my firebird i would just get taylor spiro pro wire by the foot which is about a $1.00 and put the ends on my self. the taylors had real low resistance alot better than the oem fibrglass shielded wires.i dont know if you could do the same thing with the subaru wires since they look to be about 5mm and taylors are 7 or 8 mm.
  2. i finally got the crankshaft sprocket off.i had to pound chizzels in the back side of the sprocket.the crankshaft looks ok but im going to defintly get anouther seal .the keyway also looks good.im hoping the pulley coming loose is why my car wouldnt start its been down for 3 weeks now.tomorrow i will put it back together and see if it starts up.
  3. ive got the pulley ,woodruff key and crankshaft sprocket.now i just need to get the sprocket off.im pretty sure the pulley wobble is what made my car die now since everything else was checked on the car.
  4. is there a easy way to get the crankshaft sprocket off? ive broken 2 screwdrivers prying on it and it wont budge.i also do not see away to use a puller on it.
  5. yes the timing belt was changed and the bolt was not torqued down enough, now the pulley is damaged and key is messed up.
  6. I am now thinking this pulley coming loose is what made my car die, has anyone ran into this problem before?

  8. Does anyone know if a 2.2 crankshaft pulley will fit a 2.5 motor? my crankshaft pulley came loose and was wallowed out by the woodruff key.
  9. I just checked the ones in the engine compartment ,wire brushed them and looked them over.i will check the ones under dash.
  10. i checked all the grounds in the engine compartment and they looked good ,even disconected them and cleaned them up.I did notice when i put the cable on the battery teminal from the main fuse box in the engine compartment that it sparks.
  11. I have tried both ecu s and the same thing happens with both. The light on the test light is dim while cranking over.I am starting to think maybe the ecu s are not grounding out.My electric door locks are now working and were not before the car broke down.also the ignitor and injectors are not getting a signal from the ecu.I can also hear the relay clicking when i put the test light in the back of the violet wire at the ecu.
  12. with the check engine light light only coming on when i put the test light probe in the back of the ecu mean that there is a short in the ecu?i checked all the fuses andthey looked good.
  13. the violet wire going to the ecu is getting power but notthe white blue wire.
  14. Here is what i had to do to getthe check engine light to come on.
  15. i was able to get the check engine light to come on after putting the test light probe in the back of the wire going to the ecu,the light woudnt stay on unless the test light probe was on the wire.could be a bad ground? and causing the carnot to start?
  16. my 96 outback failed the first test then i changed the o2 sensor and passed third time around.
  17. My check engine light on the 96 2.5 outback wont come on when i try starting the car.I have changed ecu s and the light bulb behind the dash and still nothing. The bulb was burned out before i replaced it.The ecu is out of a 95 outback with a 2.2 in it and it was wrecked so im pretty sure it was working.I need to get this car going and ive changed alot of parts ecu, cps, ignitor, belt ,and relays, about the only parts that havent been changed are coil and crank angle sensor.
  18. the needle barely moved at all so it should be good.while i was at the wrecking yard today i did find anouther cam sensor off a 91 legacy. The sensor is just like the one on my 2.5 and itwas on a 2.2 motor.
  19. i tested the cam sensor with the meter and the needle barely moved does that mean its bad? is the needle supposed to have a big swing or just a 1/8th inch?
  20. I want to test my cam position sensor and was wondering if you test it with the plug off of it and just put the meter leads to the 2 pins on the sensor or testit with the sensor pluged into the harness.I just want to test it before i geta new one.
  21. My 96 outback has about 250,000 on it ,just did the headgaskests 6 months ago.the carstill has 150 # s of compression in the cylinders. When the 2.5 goes im going to put a 2.2 in it.
  22. I put the timing belt on my 96 2.5 motor with everything lined up rite then turn the motor with a socket one full turn and the timing marks are way off.I have done this 3 times and everytime its the same thing, even a friend tried and samething happened when he did it.I have replaced the timing belt before on this motor and it worked. The belt i have is a goodyear belt.Does anyone have any ides why the timing marks dont stay aligned?
  23. Does anyone know if a 2.2 ecu will work with a 2.5 motor?i have a 96 outback with a ej25 and found a 95 outback with a ej22 in the wrecking yard and was wondering if it would work with my car?
