  1. 2nd that. I love the wheels. I have a set of original spoke wheels being sandblasted and powder coated right now. For some reason mine didn't come with the wagon wheels. (even though it's a GL)
  2. I wish it was perfect, but it does have VERY light spot rust underneath, and the start of the dreaded fender cancer (see the spots next to the rubber bumper corner?) The BRAT actually came out of New Hampshire. I bought it from the original owner (or actually his family because he passed). The man was 87 when he died 4 years ago, and he bought it new. He seldom drove it in the rain or snow, and when he did, he washed it in the garage. It had a topper on it when I got it, and the topper had never been off since new. The carpet and seats, and belts in back are as new. The sad part is he backed into a fire hydrant (the inside of the tailgate doesn't have a single dent in it). I did buy a NOS tailgate, just haven't painted it yet.
  3. Here are a couple pics of what I am working on. I haven't done too much yet, All of the paint is 100% original. It hasn't had any touch ups, or paint work whatsoever. I have a set of NOS stripes for the sides when I do paint it. The problem I have is that the stripes I have are burgundy, and the ones on it now are silver. I love the silver on white, but if I can't find a set of silver stripes, I may paint the BRAT silver (would look better with the burgundy stripes). Let me know what you guys think.
  4. Glad to see the BRAT hit a home where it is wanted and enjoyed. I also feel the same that you are saying about a draw towards these vehicles. My girlfriend says the BRAT is the last car in the world that she would want to be seen in......(she says it jokingly). When I was 16, my first car was a 79 Brat that was so rusty, it wasn't safe. Eventually my dad made me get rid of it. Since then, I have been looking for the perfect one to replace it (that was 19 years ago) I found it last year and I am restoring what little bit it needs. I will post a couple pics when I get a chance. Again, NICE SCORE!
  5. Oops, forgot to put in the pictures! (they are worth a thousand words ya know)
  6. I get so happy when I read another post about this car! My 360 Pick up was used and abused before I got it (probably headed to a similar fate). The guy I got it from had his kids driving it in the woods and hitting trees....intentionally. Which is the main reason for this post......my front bumper was worse than the one on that car (rear one also), and I sent it to Faith Plating in CA and when I got them back, and I opened the box, and peeled off the plastic.....I ALMOST FELL ON THE FLOOR! I don't know about other chrome shops, but I doubt anybody could have done a better job. It would be worth it for you to call them and maybe see if they can give you a quote based on a picture. I think I paid $330 for both bumpers on my truck. I don't know how much difference there is in the chrome on Subaru bumpers from 69 to 70, but the chrome that Faith Plating did is far better than stock on a 69 pick up. Just a thought on NOS versus re-chromed.
  7. YES! VICTORY! In case you can't read the part number it is:6740 02101 - It's for a 79 BRAT Still stapled and all!
  8. Thanks for the words of encouragement! I appreciate the info. Thanks! Jon
  9. How do you determine if a set of 8 spokes will fit a gen 1, if you don't know what year of vehicle they came off from? I have a chance to buy a set, I just want to know if they will work on my gen 1 BRAT (before buying them). If they were close, I would just try one, but they would have to be shipped. Thanks for the help Jon
  10. What an awesome deal! I'm so glad to see you guys get it out of the junk yard. If it was near me, I would've loved to have bought it. (I do need to get rid of some toys though). I absolutely love the heater system. I hadn't noticed it until I looked at the pictures several times......I guess it eliminates the possibility of the heater core spewing all over your feet.
  11. # 6740 02101 - FOR 1979 BRAT - NOT IN NEW STOCK That was the response I got from Subaru. Then I started calling dealers and asking about the part number. I found a couple and bought them. I have learned from buying parts for my 1969 360 Pick Up, if you have the money and you are willing to dig.....and dig.............and dig some more, the parts are still out there. That's how I just got a NOS AC compressor for this BRAT for $20.00 (STILL IN THE BOX ALSO). Not to mention another set of NOS gen 1 BRAT decals.
  12. From a Subaru dealer in New Jersey, he had two on the shelf still.
  13. Well, I didn't find anything at the Subaru Canada link, but I bought a brand new one today still in the Subaru box from 1979:banana: and as long as I was at it, I got a couple just in case I need another one. But, thank you for the tip anyway.
  14. I am need of a heater valve, or water shut off to the heater core. I am hoping to find one soon, please help. Email me at jvblakeman@aol.com and let me know what you want for it. I will send funds right away, or paypal the $$ if you have a Paypal account. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Jon
