Well I don't take many short trips. The head gasket leak is external, so therefore I don't think that coolant would be the cause of it. I also have never seen any coolant in the oil or any condensation on the oil cap. I change my oil every 3,000 with synthetic or synthetic blend oil. The old PCV valve was still functioning I believe as I could still hear the parts moving. Could this possibly be normal?

I just changed the PCV valve in my 00 OBW with 156,000 miles. This is the second time the PCV valve has been changed since it was new. The first change was probably 60,000 miles ago. I noticed quite a bit of thick gunk in the hose, which I cleaned out and put in a new Subaru PCV valve. My question is that fairly typical or could it mean other serious problems?

The last time I was changing my AC and ALT the plastic tensioner broke. I just tightened the belts up and they have been fine. I'm going to be changing mine here probably next week. Do I really need to get another tensioner or is my method ok? Where can I even find another tensioner? I can't find one on http://www.subarupartsforyou.com

Are GMB water pumps any good? -
So I've been trying to find good prices on the tensioner and pulleys for my 2000 Outback 2.5L. These are the OE parts numbers I'm pretty positive I need 13033AA042 Tensioner 13073AA142 Upper Idler 13073AA190 Lower Idler 13085AA060 Pulley Idler (toothed The kits I find don't always have the same OE numbers. For example http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-05-Subaru-Legacy-Outback-Baja-2-5-Timing-Belt-Kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33625QQihZ013QQitemZ230198320331QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Would this work?

I'm debating about replacing the upper idler and lower idler now. You guys have convinced me to at least replace the tensioner and the pulley idler. I'm not sure about the upper and lower idlers though. It's $95 for the two of them. I know it would be really expensive if one of them went bad and I'd have to replace them. But to save $100, how often do they really go bad? Like I said I'm definitely doing the tensioner and the geared idler, but I don't know about the smooth ones. How often do they go bad?

Water pump

Where can I get it for $70. I can find lot's of ones on ebay for $50 or $60. I'm not sure if I should be using those though. -
I'm having the head gaskets done in my 00 OBW done next week. The car has been taken good care of and had the timing belt and water pump changed at 100,000 miles. I do not think the tensioner for the timing belt was changed at that time. It now has 157,000 miles on it. I'm having the timing belt changed with the head gaskets. I'm not doing the water pump as it should still have plenty of life left in it, and I am spending enough doing the clutch too. Does the tensioner have to be changed? Also, how much more labor would my mechanic feasibly charge me for putting on a new tensioner when he's doing the head gaskets?

I'm having a really hard time finding someone to do the HG's on my 00 OBW. I didn't even imagine having places turn me down saying they don't work on Subaru's. This is a specific enough problem I want someone who knows Subaru's really well as I'm having a couple other things done (oil pump reseal, clutch, seperator plate, main seals, etc.) Does anybody know a Subaru mechanic in northern Indiana/Southern Michigan?

Would the front oxygen sensor be easier to change with the engine out? I'm getting the head gaskets and clutch done on my 2000 OBW with 157,000. The oxygen sensors have never been replaced and I know that at least the front one needs is overdue to go out at any time. I have an OEM sensor. Should I give it the mechanic to change? Or should I save the labor $ and do it myself? It's pretty easy and and 20-30 min job isn't it?

Looking at putting a new clutch in when getting the HG's done in my 2000 OBW. Is this a decent clutch? Any input and advice would be great! I don't need to know if it's the absolute best clutch out there, but I want to know if it's a good value for the price.
