  1. Hanyes does not make a manual for 00. I can use an older model manual? Thanks!
  2. So the CV boot is torn on my 00 OBW. Just what I need right now, after I'm going to have to have the head gasket replaced . I need help with a manual or something to replace it. Haynes does not have a manual out for my car to my knowledge. Anyone have any good place or ideas where I can get a good guide?
  3. Well...my 2000 OBW finally did it. The infamous cracked head gasket on the 2.5. I'm leaking coolant and tried using stop leak, flushed the coolant put in specially formulated head gasket fixer, but only worked temporarily. I'm leaking a small ammounts of coolant from the head again. I know I'm going to have to replace the head gasket. I know it's going to really expensive to take it some where (i'd assume betwee $500-$1000) to replace the head gasket. I'm thinking about doing it myself and saving the money. I need to do some research on EXACTLY how to do it. Anyone have any tips? What tools do I need?
  4. I am planning on flushing the coolant in my 00 OBW. I have heard about the Subaru Coolant Conditioner people recommend for the phase II 2. 5L. Does anybody know where I can get this and how much it is? Also any other suggestions when flushing the coolant? This is the first time I myself have flushed the coolant. I had the last coolant flush when I had the timing belt and water pump changed.
  5. She overheated one time and i pulled over immediatly as the temp. was rising. I refilled the radiator and haven't had any temperature issues since. I check the levels every time I drive anwhere, and it definetly leaks some, but I keep a gallon of 50/50 in my car and top it off. I'm concerned about the check engine light, which could be related to something completely different. The car runs fine. Any ideas?
  6. I think my head gasket may have a crack in it, but i'm not sure. There is no coolant in the oil, I have looked closely several times. I also have not seen any white smoke come out of my exhaust or anything. I am loosing coolant internally, I have located a small pool of antifreeze on the midsection of the drivers side of the engine. The check engine light just came on today, but runs completly fine. What are your thoughts of anything else it could be? I have a 00 OBW with about 140,000 on her.
  7. I'm almost positive there is a crack in the head gasket in my 00 OBW. I've been leaking antifreeze for about 3 weeks now. I put in some Bars Stop Leak, and it seems to slow it down pretty signficantly. However, it still does leak and I keep a very close eye on the antifreeze level. I was wondering if anybody has tried the stop leak stuff specially designed to fix cracked head gaskets. Do they work? I really don't have the extra $1000 or so to replace the head gasket. Any suggestions?
  8. 2000 Legacy Outback. About 140,000 miles. I don't think there's any vapor out of the tail pipe. Last week was the very first time it has overheated, just do to there being no coolant in the system. I definetly smell antifreeze after I drive somewhere though. No antifreeze on the garage floor after I drive it.
  9. The past 2 weeks have not been good weeks for my Subaru. Antifreeze is leaking pretty bad. I go through about a gallon of Antifreeze every 2 weeks. I don't know what the problem is, I don't see any leaks in the hoses. I've replaced the radiator cap, put some stop leak in, and it's still leaking. Any ideas?
  10. I recently noticed that a boot on a CV joint is torn in my 2000 Outback. What are your opinions on replacing it? Is it ok just to get a new boot or should I replace the entire joint? Also, where is a good place to buy from?
  11. I would also definetly go with an aftermarket aluminum one. Although cost efficiency wise...plastic isn't always bad. Why are you doing an engine swap? A 99 Sub isn't that old?
  12. Why aren't Pennzoil and Quaker state oils meant for a subaru? I've lately been using Pennzoil Platinum 10W30 and it's been good.
  13. I am curious to know if all synthetic oils are basically the same. Are there only marginal differences between leading synthetic brands? I probably know the answer to this, but is generic full synthetic oil pretty much the same as a brand name synthetic such as (10W30 Quaker State, Pennzoil, Castrol, Mobile1, etc.)? If not, what synthetic oil is the best for price? I personally think oil is important enough to not go cheap on, but what is the most cost effective synthetic? Thanks all my fellow happy Subaru lovers!
  14. I have a 2000 Legacy Outback with 136,00 miles on it. Manual transmission, 2.5 L. What would anybody recommend for oil in the winter time. I have been using 10W-30 pure synthetic oil for a while now. Would you suggest dropping down to 5W30 synthetic for the winter or is 10W30 still ok? I live in Indiana so probably temps for the winter will be mainly between 10 and 30. Also, what is better using synthetic oil or nonsynthetic high mileage oil?
