  1. Just leased a new Forester and I love it! I have a question that I don't want the dealer to screw me (more) on. Can I do the oil changes myself on my car even though it's leased?
  2. Does anybody know the diameter for the front discs on a 2000 OBW? I have had several sets of rotors that have not been the correct diameter. This causes a ridge to build up on the pads and vibrations when braking. Does anybody know the factory diameter of the front discs???
  3. I have the exact same 00 OBW, same color, same 5 spd, but 176,000 miles. As far as I know the struts for foresters are the same height. Just out of curiosity, have the head gaskets gone out yet on your car? I didn't have any problems with mine till 150,000 or so.
  4. Living through the wonderful Northern Indiana winters full of lake effect snow really makes me appreciate my 00 OBW. This morning was pretty slick and I slid a little bit at a stop sign and my ABS light came on. It stayed on for a while, but once I restarted my car up again it was gone and has stayed off. Could this be normal? I also have a torn rack and pinion boot that I noticed the other week that I need to get fixed. Could that have any effect on it?
  5. Yes I agree, I've spent a lot of money with them. They have always been great to deal with and send the correct things. My personal favorite parts place!
  6. I am going to replace the drivers side CV joint on my 00 Outback this weekend. Last year I replaced the passenger side one and the pinch bolt that holds the steering knuckle to the ball joint was an absolute **** to get off. When the car was built they did not put anti-seize or anything on the bolts so they are exteremly easy to strip and can be a huge problem to get out. Anybody else have similar experiences? I've been spraying it down with PB blast for the past couple of days in hopes that it may make it easier. Any other ideas?
  7. What are your guys' thoughts on the SYNTHETIC Lucas Oil Stabilizer. It's way way way way less thick than the regular stuff. I've heard it pretty much eliminates dry starts. I think it may be a good thing to add. Should I or Should I not?
  8. I have a 2000 Outback with 165,000. I just changed the oil on Saturday with Valvoline Maxlife FULL synthetic and a bottle of the new Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. Can I go 5,000 miles easily before changing oil? Is it safe?
  9. Hi Drew. Welcome to the Subaru world! You will be very happy! The things to definitely look out for on the years and models you specified would be head gasket repairs and timing belt changes. The 2.5 is a good engine, but unfortunately the head gaskets are the most notorious enemies for this engine. Check to see if the head gaskets have been replaced. Also make SURE if you find a Sub with over 100,000 miles the timing belt has been replaced. If you can find a Subaru within those years that has not had head gaskets replaced, I would haggle the seller down and use the savings to replace the head gaskets and various other components. You can easily find a good mechanic and OEM parts for under 1,500 to do the job. Or you can jump in and do the job yourself! Changing timing belts every 100k and regular oil changes are the keys to keeping a Subaru long running.
  10. I'm going to tackle the front oxygen sensor tommorow. I have a 22 mm wrench and a can of PB blast. Is that all i need?
  11. I'm going to replace the front oxygen sensor in my 00 OBW manual transmission. I just got the part from 1stsubaru and checked the OEM number and it checks out fine. However I got digging in my garage and forgot a couple years ago I bought an genuine subaru o2 sensor on ebay. I think it is the rear o2 sensor. The part number is 22791AA00A. Will this part work at all for my car?
  12. I'm going to change the front oxygen sensor in my 2000 Outback manual transmission. Do I just need an open ended wrench? Is it much easier with any other tools?
  13. About to change the front and rear differential oil in my 00 OBW 5 speed. I'm using Valvoline Synpower 75W-90. Is it ok to just use any Silicone RTV sealent on rear differntial plug? I got some at NAPA that says Ultra Grey Rigid High Torgue RTV Silicone Gasket Maker. Will that be ok to use?
  14. I'm changing the front and rear differential oil in my 00 OBW 5 speed this weekend. Do the drain plugs have to be sealed with anything after? IE do I need to put RTV sealant or anything else on the bolts or washers?
  15. How much differential and gear oil do I need to do the front, rear, and gearbox in my 00 OBW 5 speed?
  16. So just got my codes read and the oxygen sensor is bad on my 00 OBW 2.5L 5 speed. Just ordered the front one from 1stsubaruparts.com, should get it before this weekend. Any tips on changing it? Any tricks? How hard is it?
  17. Ok, last week had my head gaskets, clutch, and other oil seals done in my 00 OBW. I've driven about 150 miles since I got it back and have been very pleased. Not leaking anything great performance. Tonight my CEL came on. No difference in performance sounds great, drives great. I've got 160,000 on the car and the oxygen sensors has never been replaced. I just changed the knock sensor last summer. Is it most likely the front oxygen sensor? I'm having it checked tommarow.
  18. This weekend I'm going to change the differential and gear oil in my 2000 OBW 5 speed. What are your recommendations for the the differentials and the gear oil? Can I use the same for both?
