  1. Hi all, I'm looking to buy a new/used car and would like to get the carfax report on it before I go ahead and sign the papers. If anyone would be willing to check carfax for me that'd be amazing. Send me a message and I'll get back to you with the VIN! Thanks
  2. Thanks all! Guess that one's a no-go. How about an '03 Legacy Special Edition Sedan with 51K for a little over $11k?
  3. Hi again. The last car I posted about got shot down (thanks guys, for your advice.) I found another one that I think makes more sense: its an 03 Legacy L/L Special Edition Sedan... 51K miles for $11,100. I took it for a drive today, it has a couple quirks that they assured me were going to be taken care of before I bought it (if I do). The VIN is 4S3BE635637209159. Could someone check carfax for me and message me the results? It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  4. Hey all, I'm currently running a 95 Legacy LS sedan. I'm looking to upgrade to a newer model. Anyone have any tips/advice on certain years or models to avoid, or specific things to look for? Also, I found a Legacy GT for sale online, its a 2003 with 110k miles for $12.5k. I like the price but dont like the high mileage. For a Suby though, its not that high, but is it worth buying such a young car with so many miles? Any advice/input would be appreciated! Thanks!
  5. i got my check engine light diagnosed... it came back as the knock sensor failure. what is this and how important is it to get it replaced? the mechanic quoted $145 to get it fixed. not too bad, but i'd rather not shell it out if i really dont have to. thanks for info!
  6. mine's 4S3BD6554S7214472 . i know there are several records, but i cant get to them. it also apparently has an open recall, but its not telling me what it is... thanks!
  7. wow, thanks for all the speedy replies! more details/replies to your questions: it has 138k. it runs great if i can manage to get it into drive before it stalls out. it sounds and feels smooth. but lately, after this problem has re-started, it does seem like its lacking some power though, and gas mileage has been terrible. i say re-started because it began a few weeks ago, stopped for a bit after i had the plugs, wires, etc replaced, and then just re-started a few days ago, but worse. yes, a mechanic did the cam seal, crank seal, fuel filter, air filter, timing belt, plugs, wires, and-- yes the pcv valve (which i forgot to originally mention). my uncle changed the alternator. i dont know what kind of spark wires the mechanic used. i can try to find the receipt for a parts number. the check engine light is always on. my dad, who also frequents this board, says to go get the codes checked/diagnostic test done. he has also been telling me its probably one of the sensors as well. looks like the general consensus is saying the same thing. i will probably go do that tomorrow and let you know how it comes out. thank you, everyone!
  8. anybody have an estimate on the parts + labor for a fuel pump on a 95 legacy? after just buying the car a month and 2 days ago ($1900), replacing cam seal, crank seal, timing belt, plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, and alternator in the past 2 weeks ($670), its still giving me trouble starting up. it either wont start at all unless i give it a little gas, or will start and then will stall out. one opinion/guess is a weak fuel pump. and/or leaky fuel lines. any steps i should take to determine what it is exactly?
  9. anybody be willing to check a carfax for me? i'll get the VIN tomorrow
  10. its a 95 and has 138k. i just bought it a month ago, and the guy i got it from said he just had about $600 in tranny work done just last year or a couple years ago... i dont know the details, my dad has the paperwork/receipts. the light didnt blink the next time i started it... in fact, the light came on and the engine stalled out. it started fine on the next attempt. i dont know what its problem is. its awfully flakey and seems to not have any rhyme or reason to it
  11. so i started my fabulous car up today to let it warm up, and within just a couple minutes, the RPM's dropped down to almost 0 and a light that said AT OIL TEMP came on. it quickly went back up to normal and the light went off. what does this mean?
  12. nice! if i dont "win" the one off ebay, i will contact you to see if i can take yours off your hands... thanks!
  13. for a 95 legacy ls, 2.2... anybody got an extra or leftover kicking around? or suggestions where i can get one?
  14. hi all... i am the daughter with the '95 legacy that has given me more pain than joy over the last week or so... at the mechanics, i got the timing belt, cam seal, crank seal, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, and pcv valve replaced, for a grand total of $231.80 in parts, plus another $275 in labor. it had just hit 138k about 5 miles before i got to the garage. i brought the car home on friday. two days later, on sunday, it died in the middle of a busy intersection by the mall that i work at. my grandfather and uncle came to the consensus pretty quickly that it was the alternator, and i was in no position to disagree. i had seen what happened to my buick when the alternator in that went. my uncle took the alternator off, noticed it had been spray painted (!) silver to make it look new (although the receipts my father has indicates that it was purchased used). he took it to NAPA and got it tested, and sure enough it was deemed dead as a doornail. another $140 down. he also mentioned that the belt was on wicked tight, thanks to the mechanics. could that have caused the alternator to go? can anyone give me any words of encouragement here? i do love the car when its running, but right now i have a pretty gloomy outlook on it. i'm considering taking bets on whats gonna go next. i just hope it waits at least a little while so i can allow my poor bank account to replenish...
