  1. Thanks, thanks, and thanks!!!! Very good info in your post. I've always wanted to drive a manual, to be honest, but I didn't want to risk spending $10k+ on a vehicle to find out if I could drive it. Granted, I'm not an expert driver, but I was able to drive the vehicle on my first attempt. I'm an engineer, so I know how clutches work and was able to quickly figure out the best combination of clutch and gas. Today I drove the car 32 miles (roundtrip) to/from work in heavy traffic, and I've had the car for less than a week. (Ok, enough mental masturbation...lol) Thanks for the info on the switches. I'll check them out this weekend. I think I'd rather have the switch for the Hellas on the floor, since I can quickly turn it on and off with my left foot, rather than taking my hands off the wheel. My reach sucks, and the steering wheel allows me to sit further away from the dash than I otherwise would, so dash-mounted switches are difficult to reach. I can reach the dash more easily with my left elbow than with my right...don't know why. For now, I'll probably keep the 4wd button on the shift lever, and wire a floor mounted switch to some Hellas.
  2. Thanks! The steering wheel feels awesome! The suede provides great grip and feel while driving with one hand. Thanks! We do have some u-pull-its around town. I need to source a hubcap (lost one today, and it was MINT) and few other pieces, so I'll keep an eye out for Scouts.
  3. I'm thinking about swapping bases from my '08 FXT seats into my '91 Loyale. All I know at this point is that the FXT seats definitely do not bolt in to the Loyale.
  4. Thanks! Yes, I can reach the 4wd button with my right elbow. For now this is a temporary fix; I have a few ideas for a permanent location. 1) Move it to the dash - left of the cluster - if I get tired of leaning over to activate 4wd. 2) Rewire the button to a trigger on the steering wheel. 3) Rewire the button to a pedal mounted near the dead pedal - not sure if there's a switch like this... Nope, no remote, unfortunately. My mechanic gave me a HU that was laying around...so, beggars can't be choosers. I usually listen to one station anyways. Cool, I'll check out their stuff to see if they make something I might be able to use. Yes, it would really be a same to lose that knob...it was a custom one-off and $$$, as you can imagine. Next up for this car is some Hella 500s I have laying around in the garage. I'll do some poking around to see what others have done, but I'm thinking about mounting them directly to the top bumper, and reinforcing the back with some 1x1 angle.
  5. Due to a birth defect in my arms and hands I needed to do a custom steering and shifting setup in my '91 Loyale. I am unable to extend my arms beyond 90*, so the steering wheel and shifter needed to be much closer to my body to safely operate the car. Here are the results: Momo 7303 Steering Hub Adapter NRG Quick Release Works Bell 25mm Spacer Nardi 350mm Deep Corn Sport Rally Wheel WC Lathe Werks 9" Extension, with 3" Offset WC Lathe Werks "Mushroom" Knob, 1.8 lbs solid SS
  6. If you can find one, the part number for the Momo adapter is 7303. I got lucky and found one a few months ago at Crowder's Customizing. I think it was the last one, though. SAAS (an Australian company) makes an adapter too for the EA82. An Aussie eBay seller (AccessoriesOnline) sells them; I believe they quoted me around $85 shipped from Australia. Hope this helps. Ian
  7. There's one sitting in my mechanic's shop that we might put in...just waiting for this tranny to die. lol
  8. I'm getting some fantastic help from a vendor on NASION called WC Lathe Werks, who makes custom knobs and shifter extensions. I put together a rendering of the shifter and knob. I can't wait to drive this car! Should be just in time for the Hatch Patrol Christmas Tree Run.
  9. I definitely will! I'm talking to a vendor on Nasioc to have a special extension made to my specs... I just need to find the time to take all of the measurements and tie up loose ends, so I can take the car home. The laundry list is: Shifter Extension Shift Knob Shift Boot (maybe) Relocate 4WD button to dash using the cruise control button. Install tilt steering column and swap ignitions. Thoroughly clean the car and enjoy! After the shifter extension is figured out the rest should be cake. I might install some Hella 500s while I'm at it!
  10. Yep! http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f100/so-i-bought-loyale-61255/
  11. Thanks for the reply! Very helpful! I think I'll go ahead with the shifter extension and maybe convert to the EJ linkage and Kartboy shifter later, after I get used to the car. Thanks again! Ian
  12. Hey guys, I have a special situation where I need to modify the shifter on my '91 Loyale (5mt push-button 4wd) due to a physical disability. I need to extend the shifter up approx 9" and back approx 6". In doing so, I fear the shift throw will be super long. So, I'd like to install a Kartboy short shifter to decrease the throw. I asked Tom @ Kartboy to see if their shifter will work with the 5mt, but he needs a pic or two to confirm that it'll work/fit. Does anyone have pics of the shifter without the boot?? TIA! Ian
  13. Congrats on the new car! I just picked up '91 EA82 that's in great condition, too!
  14. She lives!!! ...but there's a small leak through the oil pump housing, so a new one is going in today. First mod will be some Hella 500s on the front bumper.
  15. Pics!!! I focused on the interior yesterday, while Dale put in the motor. It'll be running today! I'll give it a good exterior detail and take some more pics.
  16. This thread is right on time! I recently purchased a '91 Loyale and need to move the steering wheel closer to my body due to "physical limitations." Perusing USA eBay, there aren't many options in the way of Boss adapters. For now, I'm going to hack up the existing wheel and mate it to another boss adapter. So, here are the parts I'm going to install: *Bastardized boss adapter mated to *NRG Quick Release mated to *Works Bell 50mm Steering Wheel Spacer mated to *Nardi Sport Rally Wheel (350mm deep dish) I have a very similar setup on my Forester XT and it works beautifully. The only rough spot for us is the lack of boss adapters... Here's what my setup looks like minus the 50m spacer.
  17. Two chicks at the same time...in the back of my '91 Loyale!
  18. I've been looking for the perfect beater car for the daily commute, Home Depot runs, camping, etc, etc, etc. My mechanic (Dale of simplysubie) had a cream-puff of a red '91 Loyale wagon 5-spd laying around that needed a rebuilt engine. The rebuilt engine is a carbureted EA82 with EFI pistons. The block has 135k miles and every seal, gasket, and belt has been replaced. The water pump and idlers are new. The exterior and interior is *mint*, given the fact that it's 19 years old; it was previously owned by a cute old lady. The engine is going in this weekend, and I collect next week. I'll snap some pics this weekend. Here's a pic of my other ride...
