  1. Unfortunatly the paper type sticker is messed up and not readable. Now, there is another stamping on it "FM-7" Not sure if that's of any importance. Yeah, you can see the speedo part rotate as you move the input shaft. I'm not sure what kind of clutch it used as it's not there. I was told that this tranny only has 20,000 miles on it. So, I would guess this tranny would bolt up to a newer EJ22? Not sure what years those were built. Also, would making it AWD worth it? Advantages, disadvantages???? I don't really plan on taking it off road however, I do use it for the snow, maybe some camping. If I need to go wheeling I have my suburban. Any imput would be greatly appreciated. Ideas, thoughts, etc.
  2. My EA trans is fine! Just am woundering for when I find the time and money to swap the ea out for a EJ. Probably a ej22. The trans I have has a mechanical speedo connection.
  3. So, I came across a transmission that I was told came off a Loyale, such as mine. So, I'm a little confused though. It does not look the same as mine nor does it look as though it's 4WD. It looks like it is AWD. On it is stamped FM-7 and 4S3BH675616666039 I'm guessing it's a VIN. if that is the VIN from the car it came out of it should be from a 2001 Legacy Outback. How can I confirm this 100%. Is this transmission any good to me? Eventually I would like to put an EJ in it. The transmission is in good working order however, would there be any advantages to this transmission over my 5spd 4WD? Also, if I got an EJ, used this transmission, would it bolt in the car I have now? I'm sorry I have so many questions. I'm new to Subaru's and just want to learn as much as I can about them. I used to be an old Volvo nut but since than have sold my last Volvo and now have my 1992 Loyale.... THANK YOU
  4. Having the 2 belts more evenly distributes the pressure on the bearings. Therefore, only using 1 belt will prematurly wear water pump bearing and the like. Yes, it will run that way for a long time. However, it's cheap insurance to get both belts running on there when you can.
  5. What part isn't a wear item? The cone washer, the hub, or both? I'm hoping both....I'm going to the JY in the morning and will be picking up a hub, washer (both) and axle nut. Oh, and of course using a new cotter pin.
  6. Well after looking further the cone washer does have an edge to it. So, that's going to need to be replaced. I'm woundering if just doing that would be okay? That hub splines don't look as bad as the passanger side did however, I'm betting it should be replaced. I have a junk yark not very far from me that has probably 5 or so EA81's and maybe another 5 or so EA82's. If I remember correctly I replaced the passanger side with one from an 81 as it was the lowest milage one on the lot and the best looking. So, looks like a trip to the JY is in order first thing in the morning. I believe they are 9.99 there and it's 1.00 to get in. So, not to bad I suppose. Just a pain if you get one that's not in good shape.
  7. Yeah they were tightened to spec. Oh maybe about 2500 miles ago as I did the front bearings and hub on the passanger side....So, I checked the driver side, it was a little loose than. Now, it was WAY loose, What causes them to go bad though? Is there anything I could do to avoid future failure as I have no way of getting new ones other than waiting a week from the stealership.
  8. So, I replace the passanger side not too long ago. Now, the driver side is bad. The axle nut was loose, I looked at tightening it however, I have already done that once. My question is, why or what would be causing these to go bad? It's driving my crazy, I want to put new tires on but, not untill I get this figured out. Oh, and NOBODY around here has new ones other than the dealer ($200.00 or so) So, I'm just going to the junk yard. That seemed to work on the passanger side. BTW, 1992 Loyale Wagon 4WD EA82.
  9. did the LSD ever come in a 3.90 gear ratio?
