  1. the use of copper for brake lines worries me. does copper composite mean it will take brake line pressure that would split regular copper?
  2. 3 ways come to mind.1 they make special sockets for stripped/rounded bolts. 2 using a big chisel and hammer, hitting the bolt at an angle in the direction to loosen it. 3 find a friend with a portable mig welder and weld a bigger nut over it then it will usually come out pretty easily. getting it as hot as possible with a torch will also help. all of these are expecting to replace the bolts as they will be ruined.
  3. thanks for your help gd. what i was hoping for was someone who had either done this successfully or had run into a drop dead problem. anybody ?
  4. hey guys, i need some advice. i am considering putting a holleyweber carb from a pinto onto an ea82 eng. i know i'll need an adapter, and have to adapt the linkage and choke. what i am wondering about is if there are any red light problems, such as jetting [will real weber jets fit ? ] etc. hopefully, someone has done this and can steer me in the right direction. thanks in advance.
  5. you might check the operation of the egr valve. its a long story, but if it is not working, it can cause pinging. especially on computer controlled engines.
  6. +1 to shawn- the point about how familiar you are w/this engine is key. the first time i tried to do this job eng in car, i was a total rookie on this setup. when i broke loose the cam box, and the cam followers fell to the ground, i was astounded. plus i am a xxlarge person and getting down between the frame rails is trying. anyway, i just think things will go better eng out esp. your first time. plus makes a good time to reseal & rebelt eng and clean out eng compartment.
  7. yes, it can be done, at great cost to your sanity. if you have the tools to pull the engine, it is a much better option imop. with the eng out, you can clean everything up better. also reassembling and sealing the rocker boxes is much easier.
  8. hey guys, i just went thru this on my 93 loyale. you are right the manual was no help. finally i found the relay in question. remove the panel below the steering wheel, drop down the fuse panel, stand on your head and look up under the dash. to the left of the steering column there should be rack with 3 relays in it. in my case the relay closest to the steering column was the culprit. look for a large green w/white stripe wire. hope it is only the relay as it can get harder if wiring is the problem. i have long admired the straightforward mechanicals of my loyale, but the wiring is nuts. good luck
  9. thanks again for your replies. i have had the throttle body off and apart several times-do not see any thing that would care what angle it was mounted at. so back to the disty, the mere prescence of a drive and mounting for a distributor suggests one exists somewhere. seems like our aussie friends mentioned a disty on their engines. in fact i remember seeing a picture of boat motor so equiped. anyway, all i was after was to stimulate discussion and if its either not possible or not practical i can accept that.
  10. numbchux, thank you for your reply. it contained the kind of information i was looking for. as stated i am an older guy an your reply came in while i was working on my reply to the first guy and did not see yours in time.
  11. well guys, now that i have been put in my place from on high, will there be any more discussion ? i am an older guy,a hot rodder by nature, and have seen many things done after the better educated said it was unworkable. of course a proper dist would have to be found or fabricated. the question was will the spfi work with such an arrangement. beyond simplifying the swap, it could be made to look original a lot easier than what i have seen . the benefit of this at inspection is obvious. while not arguing the technical superiority of mpfi and coil pack ignitions-this seems to be an alternative. now if there is some dead nuts reason it just wont work, please just say so.
  12. greetings,a while back i saw a thread that posed what i thought was a good question that seemed misunderstood in the replies. the gist of it was that if a distributor was adapted to a 2.2 engine, could the spfi of,say,a 90 loyale be used along with the loyale computer? if so,looks like this would simplify the swap.
