  1. My 1998 Forester is not firing on no 4. When you swap the power connector from 2 - 4, 4 fires but 2 doesn't. Code reader says the Cam Sensor is bad, replaced it and checked the wheel with magnets. The code reader has said that there is low voltage to no. 4 and there have been misfires on 3 and 4. Lots of black smoke and very bad gas mileage. Any ideas. Michael in Spokane
  2. I have a new to me 96 Legacy Outback with a manual transmission. Having had clutches most of my life I have found that this one is different. It seems I must have the clutch all the way in to the floor before the engine will start. Is there a way to either disable it or to adjust it? Mike, KD7GHZ
  3. Hi, I live just in the valley by Felts Field on Dora Rd. Mike, KD7GHZ 88 Wagon 87 Sedan 96 Outback
  4. Well the 1999 didn't work out. We opted for a 96 Legacy Outback with 108000 miles and a manual 5 speed. The engine runs strong and the manual in my opinion is much better suited for the 2.2 than the auto. It is not the dog that the 95 with the auto was. Thanks for the replies though. Mike, KD7GHZ:)
  5. I am looking at a 1999 Legacy Outback with the 2.5L H4 engine. It looks like it could be turbo since the hood has the built in air scoop. How are these engines the car has 160000 miles. Help. Mike, KD7GHZ
  6. I believe my ABS relays are shot. They will keep going after I turn off the car and run down the battery. I was told I could just take them out for now and then replace them. However, I am now sure where they are by the front head light. Does anyone have a picture? Mike, KD7GHZ
  7. Well, I got my Legacy fixed. I had to take to a local Subaru Repair Place, it was recommended by the Snap-On Driver that comes into my store. It would appear that when I tried to repair the car I sort of messed it up. They fixed it and O2 Sensor and it works great. Only cost 290 to have it done. No complaints. It's my wifes car and to have it work right is worth it. Mike, KD7GHZ
  8. OK. I replaced the Elcectric Thermostor Control Sensor. Wow what a lot of stuff to go through. Now it doesn't really start. It sputters, and spits. Then it will die. HELP. HELP HELP Mike, KD7GHZ
  9. OK. I will check it. Not to sound dumpt, but maybe, not knowledgeable. Where is the fan switch? Also, how to I get rid of air if it is in there? Thanks for the help. Mike, KD7GHZ
  10. Yes it was. It actually was worse. The enigne light was on before also. Mike, KD7GHZ
  11. Hi, I replaced my thermostat, with the subaru OEM, put in new anitfreeze, and the car ran well for about an hour. Then it started to get hot as I was idling at a train stop. Turned around turned the heat on and drove and it cooled down. Then engine light is still on and it seems to run hot. I have plenty of heat when I turn it on, but that seems to make it run cooler. Help!!!!! This is my wifes car and she needs it to get around. Mike, KD7GHZ
  12. Went to the Subaru Dealer got another theromostat, installed it and no leaking. Finished putting in antifreeze and it seems to work. I ran it for about 45 minutes and it did not get hot, seemed to get hot when the vehicle wasn't moving. Fans all work, heat out of the heater. So we will now wait and see. Mike, KD7GHZ
  13. Yes, I used all the new parts. One thing that I noticed is that there is no gastet between the housing and the engine, like on other cars. Mike
  14. I stopped NAPA to get a thermostat for my 95 Legacy 2.2. Took the old one out, and replaced it with the new one and gasket. However, it leaks and I was afraid to tighten the bolts any further. I noticed that the gasket goes around the thermostat, not like the one on my 88. So, what did I do wrong? Mike, KD7GHZ
  15. My daughter has a chance to purchase a 1989 XT-6. It has about 190,000 on it. It does not have the turbo and is an auto. Is there anything that she or we should look for and what are the pros and cons of this year and model. Thanks, Mike, KD7GHZ
  16. Well, the rattle got worse. In fact as it turns out, it was the rear drive shaft u-joints. Boy when it finally broke you should have heard the noise. It is fixed now, 24 rear drive shaft, and I took it some friends who fixed it and it is almost like another car. Want to keep it for another 100,000 miles. It is really quiet, I can hear and don't feel that I must weat hunters ear plugs. Mike
  17. My 88 Sub Wagon, the 4wd lever just rattles. It sound like it is grinding against something. If you pull towards the driver it will quiet down, I have stuck a rag in the hole and it help some, but the sound is so loud I can't drive with it. Any ideas. Mike
  18. I put in new plugs, and wires. Took it out for a test drive and it didn't hesitate or pop at all. So lets hope that that does it. Thanks, for the help. Michael Carey, KD7GHZ:)
  19. I changed the coil pack. I procured one from our local auto dismantler. It worked well for about 15 minutes. Still misses, I will chang the Spark Plugs next. Any other ideas? Mike
  20. Hi, My 95 Legacy Wagon LS. The einging light is on, it hesitates when you start out, someties you hear a backfire or popping sound when accelerating and the egine light sometines blinks. I was wondering if it could be the MAS module? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike Carey, KD7GHZ
  21. Hi, barracuda, Andy, helped me. He helped me to put in a new clutch, without, having to pull the engine out. Andy is pretty sharp, actually, he's really very very good. He did not charge me a fortune. Give him an e-mail. Hope this helps, Michael Carey
  22. Gosh Andy, I didn't know you were that old. You soon be an old fart like someday. Hi, how are you doing? Michael, KD7GHZ
  23. Hi, My wife and I will be in Lewitown, Maine to visit our son. Our son is an inspector at the Walmart Distrubtion Center being built. So if you want to get together, drop me a line. Also, if you have an extra Sub that you aren't using for those days and want to lend it to us. Let me know and we can work out the details. Michael Carey, KD7GHZ
  24. In the "How to keep your Subaru Alive" book it talks about how Subaru borrowed the technology from Porsche for the engines. I thought I read somewhere that when Porsche wanted to water cool their engines that they came to Subaru. Is there any truth to this and where could I find it. Michael Carey, KD7GHZ
  25. Thanks, for the info. I will try and do it this weekend. I am not sure if Pull and Save is open on Monday or not. If not I will do it next weekend. Always find the help I need on the board here. Thanks, Michael, KD7GHZ
