You definitely must be from the west coast, you must learn to embrace the east coast rust.  I love peppering the highways with little flakes of my subaru, and when the muffler rots off I just keep driving.  Be loud, be proud!

I bet the lower cog wheel on the drivers side seized causing the teeth shredding. It is very close to the exhaust pipe. I had one seize before.  I fabbed up a heat shield when I put the new belts and new cog wheel on.

My car does not have the key fob.  How can I turn off the security system?  The dash board security idiot light keeps flashing when the car is parked.  I'm more worried about the battery drain of the dash flashing light, then the car being stolen.

End of thread Update: No more squeaky pulleys.  Gates kit was an easy install.  The pulleys had Made in Canada markings, will see how they hold up.

Good question. I'd love to be able to sort out all of my center caps.   In addition to what color is year specific, also what style is correct for each year?

  In CT if they are 25 yrs or older they are emission testing exempt, looks like they caught  you right before the 25 yr deadline .    The last time I brought my loyale through I put some black tape over the check engine dash lights.  Ran the tank dry, then poured in a gallon of de-natured alcohol.  passed with flying colors.  I bet you could use coleman fuel also

I cut a piece of plywood to fit the rear cargo area,  makes sliding stuff in and out much easier.

Since you are a Mainiac  I would get some protection for the underside, winter will be here soon.   Rims should be an easy score, side skirts kits, not so much.

Looks like rockauto sells a kit by Gates that has the belt and the 2 pulleys for $100.  I haven't priced the parts at the subaru dealership.  I'll probably go with the Gates Kit.

Unfortunately I have no maintenance records on the car, so I will also put on a new serpentine belt when I change the pulleys.

 

Should I run NGK plugs or do folks recommend another brand?

Usually when the cam seals go it pours, not leaks.   Just drive it and beat on it like a red-headed step child.

Recently picked up a 2002 H6 auto tranny wagon for my girlfriend.  I have never owned a EJ or H6 subaru.  The newest subaru I have ever had is a 94 loyale.

 

Need some newbie advice on what type of oil to run in it, and other things to look out for.

 

It has a rattle/squeaking upon start up (like a bad bearing in a pulley) that goes away after warm up.   Other than that it runs excellent, and it has 186,000 miles.  The stereo and climate control is out of this world, feel like I am in a Cadillac when driving it.....not at all like a gen 1 Subaru.

The ford pump works fine in a subaru. Your problem may not be fuel pump related however.  Be interesting to see what happens.

Moth balls and dryer sheets.  Stuff the dryer sheets in strategic spots.  Leave an open tray of moth balls in the trunk, engine bay, and one under the dashboard.  

Having a cat helps too.

I always re-torque or check it after driving it to make sure it didn't loosen up after a shakedown run after installation.    Also unfortunately many aftermarket parts are complete junk straight out of the box.  They may may have sent you a set of bearings that have been used as wheel chocks for the warehouse forklift for the past 20 yrs.

Did this to my Loyale, drilled a hole in the trans tunnel and installed a metal bar (modified towel bar) .   You will need something stiffer than a cable or a coat hanger.
