How do you install Remote keyless entry into a Legacy BD 96'?
I have one of the code Alarm modules, not the alpine units used in newer years. This is my keyless entry. I'm curious as how do I install this? I've been trying to figure out for the bejusus of me and I just can't. Ugh, I can't find where it plugs into..I read countrless guides on the net' and nothing has led me to the discovery of it -.-. Maybe, If I'm lucky one of you has installed this in the past..and could lend me a hand! Thankkkkkkkks!

So, I think I need 2 new temp sensors + speed sensors.
after 1400$, and 3 bad transmissions my subaru has driven over 4,000 miles on its new one since Jan1st and ! So, my only problems with the car now are, oil leak at rear main oil seals, speed sensor (The speedometer flucates going up and down till I hit 20mph, and then from there it misreads the speed 5mph lower then what it is (if it says 55, it's going 50..etc). Temp sensor, the instrument cluster's temp guage goes up and down fluctuating...saying it's on the RED randomly..like for example if its in the red at one red light..the next one it'd be in the middle..etc the problem could also be a frozen thermostat or waterpump..but I shall replace the temp sensors first because even if their not the issue..their still OEM from 95' so blah." and as theres 2 temp sensors to the car, one which reports to the guage, and one to the ECU..I shall replace both to make sure its perfect! After that, I shall tackle timing belt, waterpump, thermostat, brakes (rotors + pads), and possibly new tires unless I can score new wheels with nice tire thread on them! What do you guys think? Does this all make sense to ya?

Leaking Headgasket? :(
kirbykirb replied to kirbykirb's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNo idea if the subaru has previously overheated, I believed though the headgasket was worked on previously and so...it must've overheated a bit. But, the thing is..is there anyway to tell if I should just replace the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, pulley, thermostat (one that fails in the open position) and radiator cap? I really don't want to spend over 500$ as this here sound like it will cost me, if bam it really is the headgasket and bam I'm out 500$, and the car dies the next day.

Is my Transmission out?
kirbykirb replied to kirbykirb's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHeh.... my damn luck. Fixed the transmission issue, and now bam the engine has a headgasket leak. Well, thats the nail in the coffin for this car.

Leaking Headgasket? :(
I've done my research a bit... I have a siezed tensioner pulley which pretty much has taken the spring with it, causing it not to work the waterpump correctly. Had no idea so I drove a bit of miles on it, and bam I now have a leaking headgasket. When I look under the car, I have a very minute leak with the oil + coolant where it meets the pipe which takes it out the muffler. So, would you agree this is a leaking headgasket? I want to make damn sure lol. Heres some pics hopefully that can help...(more pics below) (This is the accessory drive belt, and that tensioner is for the AC right?) Heres the picture of the pulley which does not move, with the help of another member on these boards, plus some subaru techncial books I can say it's the tensioner, and it's only safe to assume the spring in it went--requiring atleast a new timing belt + tensioner fix. If it was just that, I'd say okay I'd fix it. BUT, now I have the issue of possile coolant and oil combining, which of course means headgasket issue. Even with a minor headgasket leak, I still have the EJ25 engine which of course is Subarus' favorite engine of this time to be ridden with these issues- My luck lol. The reason why I think the oil + coolant is combining, is because there is white smoke coming from the exhaust manifold of the engine.. and the oil and collant here are combined: (Plus you can see abit of the smoke, usually it's alot more worse then that!) After the car's been off for a while, I touched place where both exhaust pipes meet to come into one and it was brown with sweet stickyniess. so, Oil + coolant. Heres the leak I saw on the ground this morning, after I left the car overnight in the spot.. sweet stickyness coolant.... So, is it safe to assume it's a leaking headgasket?

Is my Transmission out?
kirbykirb replied to kirbykirb's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXStill, pretty much 6 months since my purchase of my subie. The transmission broke down Aug 10th. Bought the Subie June 28th. Horrible. Simply Horrible. I will never buy a subaru again after this pathetic hellish experience. 1700$ spent so far in transmission and labor, and nothing. So, pretty much 3000$ for the car purchase, another 1000$ for 6 months insurance (basically wasted) and now 1700$ in this bs. 5700$ gone into just nothing. Transmission does not work still, waiting on mechanic..the same one to fix it still.

Used Soob shopping - skip the Legacies??
kirbykirb replied to mh_ccl's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGet a BD legacy! mine has been awesome, and well I bought it w/ expected issues but headgaskers were done. If you find one you like, PAY a good mechianc to check the headgaskets and also the transmission.. But hell even if they break..you can score a used tranny between 300-500$ and a used engine in the same price range. My mom owned an outback legacy wagaon (96) and I own a Legacy sedan, both 2.5L and we've seen no problems ;D that were not expected.

Is my Transmission out?
kirbykirb replied to kirbykirb's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah, I have a hayens but we were using the subie dealer manual..heh, I meant Female and Female, the end where the CV joints the tranny are both female, while on the trany that came out of the car (We found out, my subie had a previous junkyard tranny in it too.) had on it male end, This is what I mean-- Male connector... While, in the new tranny---their like this the red part covers it up but it's a female connector. (Also found out new tranny has only on it 60K!! ) I think you hit the nail in the answer I'm looking for so they do come out, awesome we weren't ************ing sure about it on spot and we were like screw it the tranny has to come out anyway so we took it out, then tried to take it out via various methods which did not work, so we just took a drink break and called it a day heh. Some more random pics-- The tranny has been murdered.

kirbykirb replied to kirbykirb's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSo, I just found out the PO changed the transmsision on my car to a later model. The CV joints on my car are female, while the points they connect to on the car are male. So, I'm gunna go pull the CV joints at the wreckers and get that and install them monday, Blahh.... (((
