  1. Replace the connector and in tank wiring. Or probably easier to get the whole unit used from a wreck. That, or I'll bet Subaru has a part# for just that wiring connector bit, you could order.

I've replaced the connector, 12v. Fixed that problem then. BUT not getting fuel still so it has to be the fuel pump, can't be the relay if there was 12v everywhere along the connections.

Could it still possibly be the ECU? how do I test the grounding?

  2. The wires and connections are all ok.

It's weird because it can only be the ECU now really. Or the fuel pump itself but I doubt it. Have checked the wiring and have swapped the fuel relay with a relay that was next to it on the same bracket.

How do I run power straight to the fuel pump so it's running all the time? I know it's dangerous to drive around on. BUT this would tell me if I need a new fuel pump or not, am I right? Something about bypassing the relay or something?

  3. To see if voltage is getting to the pump motor place the black meter probe to a good chassis ground point and the red probe on the wire connection to the pump and with the pump reconnected. If you have 12 volts on the wire then the ground to the pump motor is either open or the switching action in the ECU for the ground isn't working.

At the pump this is no power or 0.01v

At the pump side of the connector plug there is 9v with the red on the plug and black on the chassis. AND 12v when red and black on the plug.

Other side of the connector plug is 12v for both.

  4. 1994 ej18 impreza gc6. (right hand drive)

Is the green plug quite small? I see two green plugs unplugged next to each other.

Also with the fuel gauge, when the car is turned off should the needle go right back down to empty? Or does it stay on how much fuel you have even when off (might have broken the fuel floater sensor thing)

  5. just a question about closing the tank again.

I put the assembly back in. I'm not sure if you need to do anything special or not but now my gas gauge says I have more than half a tank of gas. When the car is turned off I have quarter.

Also is there anything I need to do to get fuel pumping again? (my car is not starting, thats why I am opening the tank etc)

    thanks

  6. Hi,

I see there are four black relays in the engine bay fuse/relay box. Are these the only relays or is this a big round silver relay somewhere?

Reason is that I need to swap a relay with the fuel pump relay in my 94 impreza to see if it bad or not. I pulled out a black a/c relay and tried plugging that in but I'm not sure if this is right or not because my car still didn't start.

  7. Left side of the car left of the steering column way up under the dash. Its on a bracket with the main relay that is brown and square and the fuel relay is silver with a green plug in.

No power or ground going to the fuel pump is a start. The power wire is black with a red tracer and the larger wire coming out of the fuel pump. The ground is light green with a black tracer. You can add ground or power to the fuel pump manually to see what you are lacking to make the engine run and go from there.

Was a mission to get to. Finally got it off.

Is there any way to test it? I have called up a lot of places like dismantlers, auto electricans and no one seems to have a relay.

  8. I have my brother turning the key on and off to the on position while I check for power.

There seems to be no power after the connector plug and down to the fuel pump. The fuel gauge wires have power tho (around 0.5v) and they are using the same plug.

Just tried connecting power straight to pump, sounds like its working fine, a whizzing sort of sound.

  9. I've removed the fuel pump assembly. Everything looks fine. No bad wires or connections.

I tried connecting the connector plug with the unit out. Tested for power at the terminals on the fuel pump and only showed 0.01v (turned to on position), which is weird as there was 11v at the connector plug.

how do i connect power straight to the pump? Wires from battery to pump?

  10. Hi,

I removed my fuel pump assembly from my 1994 EJ18 Impreza.

It looks in good condition to me, but who am I to tell.

I want to know if there is any way to tell if it needs to be replaced or cleaned?

And how would I clean it?

I also checked for power at the fuel pump itself with the connector plug in. There was 0.01v at the pump. but 11v at the connector plug. this is no damage to the plug or wires at all.
