  1. I just passed my Vehicle Warrant of Fitness (I live in New Zealand) I was told that both the rear outer CV Boots were split. Is this a serious issue? And how simple to fix as a do it yourself? Its 1994 EJ18 GC6 Impreza Cheers
  2. I've replaced the connector, 12v. Fixed that problem then. BUT not getting fuel still so it has to be the fuel pump, can't be the relay if there was 12v everywhere along the connections. Could it still possibly be the ECU? how do I test the grounding?
  3. Went and got a spare fuel pump housing, swapped over the gas tank gauge meter thing. Before putting my fuel pump on, checked for power and there was 12v! So with my hopes up, put the fuel pump on, put the assembly back in the tank, tried starting my car but still not starting. To me this must mean that the fuel pump is bad?
  4. Yes 12v at the tank connector plug. But only 9v on the other side of the plug closest to the pump itself. And 0v at the pump itself.
  5. The wires and connections are all ok. It's weird because it can only be the ECU now really. Or the fuel pump itself but I doubt it. Have checked the wiring and have swapped the fuel relay with a relay that was next to it on the same bracket. How do I run power straight to the fuel pump so it's running all the time? I know it's dangerous to drive around on. BUT this would tell me if I need a new fuel pump or not, am I right? Something about bypassing the relay or something?
  6. At the pump this is no power or 0.01v At the pump side of the connector plug there is 9v with the red on the plug and black on the chassis. AND 12v when red and black on the plug. Other side of the connector plug is 12v for both.
  7. I swapped the fuel pump relay with the relay from a white plug next to it. Still not starting. Checked for power at the fuel relay plug, 12v.
  8. Hi, I have a non turbo 1994 ej18 impreza. I was calling around to get a price on a fuel pump for my car when a guy told me that I can use a turbo fuel pump on my car because it fits. Is this correct and what are the pros and cons if there are any? Thanks
  9. In my thread here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=100194 I think I had 12v at the connector plug but no power from the pump side of the connector to the pump itself. Im not too sure what I'm checking. Could you please explain how I check the ground continuity? Thanks
  10. thanks Cougar, I really appreciate all the help! Checked for power on SBF-2, around 2.7v on and off key position. Checked for power at the green plug relay connector 12.7 off, 12.4v on. And there was around 12v at the pump connector when I last checked it.
  11. 1994 ej18 impreza gc6. (right hand drive) Is the green plug quite small? I see two green plugs unplugged next to each other. Also with the fuel gauge, when the car is turned off should the needle go right back down to empty? Or does it stay on how much fuel you have even when off (might have broken the fuel floater sensor thing)
  12. I had tried replacing the crank sensor a while ago. There is spark. Is definitely fuel problem as have tried using stater fluid. sorry I don't understand what you mean by "two green test connectors"
  13. Hi, Is there any simple way of checking if the ECU is bad on an EJ18 Impreza 1994? Fuel pump is not getting power, so it is either the ecu or fuel relay. any help appreciated
  14. thanks for the help but I know the fuel relay. and the ignition relay. they are on the same bracket, along with a white plug relay. What i need to know is what relay i can swap around to see if my fuel relay is bad or not. cheers
  15. just a question about closing the tank again. I put the assembly back in. I'm not sure if you need to do anything special or not but now my gas gauge says I have more than half a tank of gas. When the car is turned off I have quarter. Also is there anything I need to do to get fuel pumping again? (my car is not starting, thats why I am opening the tank etc) thanks
  16. Hi, I see there are four black relays in the engine bay fuse/relay box. Are these the only relays or is this a big round silver relay somewhere? Reason is that I need to swap a relay with the fuel pump relay in my 94 impreza to see if it bad or not. I pulled out a black a/c relay and tried plugging that in but I'm not sure if this is right or not because my car still didn't start.
  17. I've got the fuel pump relay out from under the dash. I've called up some places but can't find anyone who sells one. Is the a/c relay the white plug on the same bracket as the fuel pump and main relay? I think I understand the voltage thing now.
  18. Was a mission to get to. Finally got it off. Is there any way to test it? I have called up a lot of places like dismantlers, auto electricans and no one seems to have a relay.
  19. checked the pump with my car battery. sounds like its working. I think I know what you mean. I just probed the black wire with the black probe and the red with red probe. gave 0.01v and sometimes nothing. how should I be checking it at the pump?
  20. I have my brother turning the key on and off to the on position while I check for power. There seems to be no power after the connector plug and down to the fuel pump. The fuel gauge wires have power tho (around 0.5v) and they are using the same plug. Just tried connecting power straight to pump, sounds like its working fine, a whizzing sort of sound.
  21. I've removed the fuel pump assembly. Everything looks fine. No bad wires or connections. I tried connecting the connector plug with the unit out. Tested for power at the terminals on the fuel pump and only showed 0.01v (turned to on position), which is weird as there was 11v at the connector plug. how do i connect power straight to the pump? Wires from battery to pump?
  22. Hi, I removed my fuel pump assembly from my 1994 EJ18 Impreza. It looks in good condition to me, but who am I to tell. I want to know if there is any way to tell if it needs to be replaced or cleaned? And how would I clean it? I also checked for power at the fuel pump itself with the connector plug in. There was 0.01v at the pump. but 11v at the connector plug. this is no damage to the plug or wires at all.
