  1. ok, got someone to help me. There are 4 wires in the connector plug, Blue with yellow stripe, thick black wire, thin black wire and green. thin black and green gave around 4volts when turned on position. must be the gauge? blue with yellow stripe and thick black wire gave up to around 11v when turned on position but then dropped back to 0v. Postive probe in thick black wire and negative on a ground bolt gave a around a constant 0.05v Double checked for any noise when turning on and can't hear anything from the fuel pump.
  2. Hi, I am needing to open the lid on the fuel tank and want to know what to do before so to avoid any mistake/mess. I tried easing off one of the fuel lines and a bit of gas came out so I stopped. Do I need to do anything before taking the lines off? any help appreciated
  3. just tried the starter fluid idea. Sprayed some into the intake piping twice, didnt work but then sprayed into the end of the piping and a bit in the throttle body and it fired once then died. so this is a fuel problem whether it be the pump or the electrical to do with the pump. I will check the power again and post up results. TO 4x4, I think you are correct. I must have probed the gauge wire. To be honest I don't know which wires are which and just tested all for power.
  4. I can't seem to hear anything apart from noises from the front off the car when turning the key to ON postion. I've checked the power to the pump, 4volts at the connector plug. I will try get the fuel pressure tester asap.
  5. I can't hear any sound from the fuel pump. What sound am I listening for? I am checking to see if there is power to the pump but the multimeter is broken. If there is no power then it must be the relay? If there is power then it is the pump?
  6. 4x4 Welder thanks for all your help. the timing belt is all lined up and not broken. There is spark. have checked fuel pump before and I heard a click click or some sound when turning key to on postion.
  7. I tried unplugging, it wouldn't start. The check check engine light shows along with the radiator (looks like it) light, battery and check engine. A few seconds later the oil light comes on.
  8. yes there is check engine light. The connections are all fine. Battery has been tested, good. Battery charged up over night.
  9. Yes. I tried putting a 600cca truck battery on it. It started. Then put my 520cca car battery back on, it worked for a week. Died again. Put truck battery back on, no go, my battery, no go. I have check all the fuses I have also tried jump starting from my dads truck, 600cca. No go.
  10. 1994. EJ18. 192,000kms. I have tried changing the crank sensor. I put a 600CCA battery on it, it started. Put my 520CCA battery back on, it worked for about a week then died again, wouldn't start with either battery. Starter motor works fine told by auto electrician. Turns over but doesn't start.
  11. Hi, How do you check if your Mass Air Flow sensor is working good or not? My car turns over but does not start. thanks
  12. i only took the starter motor in. not my car as i cant drive it obviously. Have checked cables. there is power to the starter. It sounds exactly as it should but doesn't have that last kick that starts the car.
  13. I took it to an auto electrician. He thinks the starter motor is fine. if I had the money I would just pay to get it fixed. but i am a young student. What else could it be?
  14. Im looking to buy a 1996 Impreza WRX STi done 115,000kms. It is completely stock/standard. What can I do to check the clutch and gearbox, as they are problems at this mileage. Any other things to check before spending the $$$
  15. Thanks, Where is the starter solenoid? How do I check for the voltage? (car on, while cranking?)
  16. Hi, Recently had problems starting my Impreza. Tried absolutely everything. Then at last it started when I put a truck 600CCA battery on it. Took that off and put my normal car 500CCA battery back on. It ran the car for about 2weeks. But still didn't start that well. It has now stopped working again. I tried putting the 600CCA truck battery back on to see if it would work, but no! What could be the problem? I've got gas in the car.
  17. I live in New Zealand and our steering wheel is on the right side (sitting in the car) Would the relay be here or like you said on the left side of the car still? If anyone has a picture that would help a lot
  18. Its a 1994 Impreza GC6. Yes, the check engine light is on. Can I remove the Inspection lid in the rear right side in cargo/boot, then remove the fuel tank lid and check out the fuel pump even tho I have half a tank of gas. Is it safe, what do I need to do otherwise? is the green and silver plug the fuel pump relay. its above the fuse box on the right side of steering column I have tried listening for the fuel pump when turning the key to "On" but not to "start" and I can't hear any sound coming from the fuel pump, but i do hear a very quiet "did, did" sound. So in my opinion I think it is either the Relay for the pump or the pump itself, I am leaning more towards the Relay tho. Because my car just died without warning when I went to start it.
  19. Hi, Where is the fuel pump located on an EJ18, and how do I check for power? I've tried pulling off the in-line and turning the key, isn't convincing enough for me. Reason for this is that my car isn't starting and just died unexpectedly when I tried to start it one day.
  20. How do I go about fixing it? Also it is hard to get to. It goes into the intake manifold and its quite solid in there.
  21. I was trying to pull out the Coolant Temp Sensor and I noticed this small broken line/pipe coming from a little pump thing on the end of the Injectors Rails (if that's what its called???) This is on the left side of the car (standing in front of the engine bay) Drivers side in New Zealand. It comes from out of the top of the little pump thing and goes up into the intake manifold. I only noticed this now and I may have broken it while trying to pull out the sensor, but would this being broken stop my car from starting?
  22. thanks for the new input Ill try both those ideas. Do you know where to find the coolant temp sensor on an ej18?
