  1. So I have a carbed ea82 hatch. With no A/C, ABS, or any of that bull************. 5 speed transmission.

If I want to put a ej22 in it, is it possible to mount the engine, and built a harness to the ECU which will be in the engine bay, as minimal as possible?

  2. if it's the part time 4wd trans, you could leave it in front wheel drive, and pull the rear driveshaft.

if not, you could just use some longer bolts and some washers to space it temporarily, but I'd guess you'd get a hell of a vibration.....

Ya id leave it in fwd and yank the shaft if I had front axles.

I gotta find a the block that lifts the front of the rear crossmember. Some dude had a 6" lift that fits in my gl but I had to dig it out of his burnt down barn. Not sure what im missing but I know im missing one of those just by looks.

  3. There is a pair of two ea81 Gl Hatches set up for iceracing in my nabourhood with 13b rotary engines installed. They use ea82 dual range trannys. They used an adaptor plate to mount the engine. Also, they found the subaru clutch was not capable and through trial and error found a sutable hybrid clutch, pressure plate, flywheel set up that held together.

The rotary motors did eventually eat up the low range on the trannys, but these were raced hard and often. Even hillclimbed.

  4. the person who told me this has broken his fair share of Subaru transmissions he has also built some very powerful Subys and now owns a tuning shop to do this. Pleades helped build my car originally and now has two One Lap victories. I don't take his word lightly.

maybe he forgot to add the letter "W" before the "RX".

  5. i was wondering if anyone has blueprints or build plans with measurments and angles i could use to make strut spacers and drop brackets for the crossmember driveline bearing and rear diff for my 95 legacy.

If u search it hard enough I think you can find the numbers.

I know the ea82 specs are up somewhere, but saying that, I found a lift to buy anyway.

  6. EA82 hubs are all the same. since I don't know what car you have....I don't know what you're thinking of running. but yea, if you have 25 spline stubs in your transmission, EA82t axles will work just fine.

the axle ratio in my transmission is 4.111, so I used a 4.111 rear diff out of a '94 legacy. But they're the same. the Ej mounts are different, but the Ea82 hanger is a direct swap onto an EJ diff.

    Thanks, clears up some questions.

Hopefully I get a shop space soon enough. Its a 87 3 door gl.

  7. XT6 front and rear xmember, EJ center (I'm using one from a '96 legacy).

I shortened my driveshaft 2". worked great.

knuckles and transmission are separate projects. you can go 5-lug with an EA transmission, and you can grab 25-spline 4-lug axles from a turbo Ea82.

a bunch of that is covered in my Ea2ej writeup.

Thanks alot, yes your write up is my bible. Im gonna do the trans at the same time I do the engine, only makes sense.

So with the EA82T hubs and ej trans I can use ea82T 25spine axles and they will fit? Nice. Also, you shortened your driveshaft 2". What rear end did you use, the stock ea82 or did you use a newer one?

  8. Is there any compiled information about a full EJ driveline swap into EA82 cars? I've got a 3 door coupe that would love some more pep and I want its dual range for my wagon.

I know ive gotta use a XT6 rear trans crossmember, wrx front trans crossmember. Shorten driveshaft 55mm (is this the case if im using the new rear end or the old one?). And the front knuckles get swapped for the ej ones so I can use the 25spline axles and gain 5 bolt as well correct?

I'd love some pointers anywho... I hate learning the hard way.

  9. Why sell, is 500 bucks at the most really gonna make a difference? You could spend 800 and the old boy will be kickin with an EJ and fresh driveline if u put a little work in. I mean for 1300 your still gonna being buying someone elses problem.

And for the record, ive owned 4 ea82 wagons, 1 xt turbo, 1 three door gl coupe, 1 5mt 1st gen legacy sedan, 1 5mt swapped 1st gen legacy wagon. I find the ea82 cars are just better. I mean the legacy is nice for its power, brakes, suspension... but I guess I just like the farm equipment better haha. There is more character, things are simple, and I like being able to pull and engine and then trans without a hoist just 4 sets of sturdy hands, just 2 for the trans.
