FT4wd vs. AWD
:-\ 4wd, 4x4, or FWD are terms used to describe a vehicle in which all for wheels can powerd, either part time or full time. AWD means all wheels are powered all the time, be it 90/10 or 50/50, all whells recive power from the engine be it an open diff lockable or not, or limited slip type. In some later model Jeeps they a NV-242 transfer case in which 2 wheel drive, full time 4 wheel drive, or 4 wheel drive HI, LO can be selected. I believe it is called by Jeep comand trak. They ar called 4 wheel drives.

Build a WRX in your garage
scubaroo replied to scubaroo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyah I wish they would standardise wiring more it would make working on then easier, but if there is a will there is a way. Did you see the latest issue about the rear wheel drive mod for drifting. if they really want to drift they should buy an old full size pick-up take the bed off put 50lbs of air in the rear tires and stomp it.

best oil , weight?
:wave:HI About 2 or 3 years ago I read an artical about oil weight. the then new model H***a was out and required 5w/20 and question were being asked about the oil weight. I was also woorking at a oil change shop and had to inform custumers that we did not carry the oil for there H***a car and to take it to the dealer for there oil change. the atical stated that the new engines were of very tight tolerances and using a heavyer oil could cause leakage past the seals. In a high millage american V8 like my 88 plymouth fury cop car 378000 miles 20w/50 our 207000 mile 90 legacy 10w/30 or 10w/40.

best oil , weight?
 hi all. I personally would not use 20/50 in a 4 pop. Heavier oil decreaces Hp, and it does not lubricate any better. 10/30 10/40 is fine all year, if it gets really cold 5/30 in winter is OK for normal driving. My choice in oil is Castrol.

I just want to say this is a grate place for SOOBY owners. I have already learned a few things about some of the problems I found on our 90 Legacy AWD wagon. This is our thrid soob. Our first was a 79 4x4 wagon, the second was a 86 GL wagon duel range 4x4 lots of fun (got stuck in the snow in John Day Oregon). These are tuff cars, fun to drive, and very reliable.

Collapsed upper radiator hose... why?
scubaroo replied to outback_97's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's most likely the rad cap. but when you remove the cap to replace it look at the under side there should be a metal button use your finger nail to see if it moves down a littleif it does check the over flow hose for a blockage.

Ease of maintenance?
scubaroo replied to viceversa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'M A NEW USER BUT NO STRANGER TO SOOBS. THIS IS MY THIRD A 90 LEGACY AWD WAGON. OUR FIRST WAS A 79 4WD WAGON AND WAS USED AND ABUSED. OUR SECOND WAS A 86 GL WAGON 4X4 DUEL RANGE LOTS OF FUN. GOT IT STUCK IN JOHN DAY OREGON. THIS LEGACY IS VERY EASY TO WORK ON. WE HAD A 88 NISSAN PULSAR NX 1.8 DOHC. THE BEST WAY TO WORK ON THE ENGINE WAS TO PULL IT.
