  1. My bad for setting it up, then having to blow it off. Next meet I'll bring two 12 packs of the suggested brew for everyone (except me, as punishment) to enjoy. Luke
  2. 91 Loyale has 225,XXX. Just did all the gaskets to the heads. I expect at least that much more unless the body rusts off.
  3. Well, for getting all worked up and ready to go. I have to say I'm out. The Keeper of the Schedule says no go on Sunday (Birthday party for her nephew) and Saturday is busy for it seems like everyone. Dang it! And I thought I had it all planned out. On another note, think good thoughts for my Brother-in-Law's OBS. He thought he was all 'Fast and Furious' and slammed the poor thing into a curb.
  4. One week to go! Need a roll call here! Well, need is a strong word. Just reply with 'In' or 'Out'. All there is. If you reply with 'In' I'm pm'ing my number. If you reply with 'Out' I'm pm'ing the IBM helpdesk number. Reply 'Out' to find out.
  5. I'm soooooo looking forward to this. May not be bringing the SubaDoom Wagon, but the Mazda (Spent too much money on the mazda to let it sit). So I'll have the back seats clear to load stuff. Hopefully I'll sell my Trek so I can haul back a EJ22T and if not random parts for the inside to make the Wife happy. I'm still leaning towards hauling the Subaru though. Need to see how she does on longer runs. I'll post my Cell number(ish) after this weekend so we can all figure on a place to meet up. Luke EDIT: Oh, and if Sunday works better please let me know now. I'll try to be (mostly) sober Sunday morning if need be. Saturdays are easy, but Sunday is reserved for hangovers and NASCAR. L.
  6. New door seal at PnP? Had the same issue except for the fact that the door seal would attack me when I got out of the car. $5.00 later the problem is solved. Just a thought.
  7. Do it yourself. I spent 550 on my Loyale (ran like crap). 50 on the gasket set (If it lasts 6 months I'm good) 50 on the Timing belts and pullys (6 Months, still good) 3 days in a Friends garage (Took us two days to decide to pull the engine) Once we figured pulling the engine was the best idea we were done in an hour and a half. Paid him a 12-Pack. So now I have a Loyale that will last me a while (If I decide to take care of it, still up in the air). And it really didn't cost all that much. Where are you located, do you have tools, do you have garage space? If you're near me (Reno, NV) count me in on giving a helping hand. If you're not near me, logic still applies. Do it yourself and save some cash. EDIT: If you're near me I'll trade you a Trek Bicycle (1.5, not a cheezy azz bike) for you're XT as is. Seems fair. You'll still get around anyway. LOL! No really, fix it yourself. Cheap and easy(ish).
  8. Pick and Pull. I replaced all four of my window moldings for less than 40.00 and if you take your time you can ensure the not bending bit. It really isn't that hard, practice on your car first, then go to PnP and pull the parts you need. Good luck! Luke
  9. Dang it. I just realized (I'm sober now) that my Mom and Sister are going to be in town next weekend. So I'll push this off until the weekend of the 16th. Should give more time for planning anyway. Luke
  10. Looking to go to Pick and Pull in Carson and Reno next weekend (May somethingish, not may 2ndish(forgive me, it was bowling night. And drinking is a part of bowling)). Looking to see if anyone wants to meet up? If there are people the want to meet at Carson I'll try to be there by 9-10ish. If in Reno I'm thinking 10-11ish. Anyone? Beuler? I'll have my 91 Loyale, not my Mazda3. PM me for a Cell Number. Luke
  11. See, I should have not gotten stuck on the whole "JDM STI uses 2.0 engine" and really did my homework. I guess I was stuck in Cart before the Horse mode. I borrowed my friends STI one time, and after she got out of the car her exact quote was "Oh H3LL NO!". So now when I go to the Subaru dealership she goes with me to make sure I don't come home with a new car instead of a part. I tried explaining to her about defensive driving, and she tried to explain to me why she needs 30 purses. Neither of us could see the others point. Agree to Disagree I guess.
  12. Due to my inability to gain patience, and serious lack of fund for what I want. I'm changing direction from a EJ20T to a EJ22T. Why? Because pick and pull has a (mostly) complete one sitting in the lot. $156 (I'm not turning in my EA82) vs. $999.99 And the Decision maker says if I don't pull the trigger now, she's going to spend it all on purses. PURSES!!! I'll keep a rolling update here incase anyone wants to point and laugh.
  13. Well, that sucks. Not looking like I can get the setup I saw. Silly kids and their inability to realize that jumping off the back of the couch only works if you jump on the seats, not the floor. Although, he got some really good air time. So, back to my original question, can I / should I get the engine/harness/ecu all at once? Or can I get the engine first and worry about the rest later? Thanks.
  14. Thanks for the Tip! Just found an EJ20G w/trans and everything for 999. I'm impatient so waiting 6 days is going to kill me. Thanks again!
  15. One part at a time. So the Loyale doesn't have enough get-up-and-go when loaded down (or empty for that matter) and I'm heading towards and EJ swap. Downside is I can't afford it all at once. So I'm looking to pick up an engine, ecu, harness and minor bits. Then go all out with a trans, AWD and 5 lug swap at a later date. I'm looking to put in a EJ20T and wanted to see if it was a smart idea to get the engine first, do a once over (breakdown/replace gaskets) then try to find the ECU/Harness? Right now I'm not too worried about the trans as the EA82 still functions after a recent rebuild. So if I get the adapter, install the 20 and blow the stock trans I'm not going to shed too much of a tear. Thoughts? Thanks, Luke
  16. "If the women don't find you handsome, at least they'll find you handy" Ain't that the F'in truth!
  17. To everyone on this forum that has posted a question/answered a question. Thanks to you guys I was able to pull my EA82 and replace gaskets down to the heads, fix my water pump, adjust the timing, do some interior work and realize that I had the wires wrong on the Dizzy. Without you guys I wouldn't have been able to pass Nevada smog. So, Thanks!!!:banana::banana: On a side note, anyone going to Carson City PnP anytime soon? Want to see what they have in the way of EJ engines. Reno only has one EJ22T with most of the good bits missing. Luke
  18. It's showing $0.03 plus $50.00 core charge. May be changing some parts soon!!
  19. +1 for Thurston ORV...Granted, I may or may not have the time off. And I have a 91 so I may not be accepted (LOL). But damned if I won't try my bestest. One Eye: You know Don Rogers?
  20. I'm planning on doing a full gasket change when I get the 3 back from the stealership, but I've heard about overheating and will do my damndest to stay far far away from it. I'll work on changing out the cooling system. I can afford to do hoses an T-Stat shortly, as the Rad isn't in too bad of shape I'm thinking it can wait. The water pump on the other hand, may have to find one and replace it when I do the hoses. I'm leaning towards a EJ22. Mainly for a horsepower bump (yes, I'm shallow minded). But that is in the far far far future. Right now I want to make this thing as safe as I can for my commute (2 Blocks, 8 minutes on a bad day) and to take my kids camping this summer (2.5 year old and a 6 week old. Last time we went camping the 3 got High-Sided on a rock...Yes, a rock.). I'm liking the sound of the 14 pugs. May go trolling the PNP after I get the smog and reg done. Thanks for the ideas!!! L **More** Yeah, there is no Rust that I can see. Checked the floor pans and the wheel wells, nothing. Mostly Dirt and Dust. As for the windows, they came tinted. Just need to get the butterfly sticker off ASAGODANMP! My wife likes it, but she doesn't have a Drivers License so her opinion counts for crap in the butterfly debate. **Luke**
  21. Hey all, Just wanted to get a few opinions about my new to me Subaru. But first a little backstory: I grew up in a 1991 Loyale. Well...Truthfully, I was conceived in a 67 bug, born in a 67 bug, and my first car was the same 67 bug. Yes, it was awkward. BUT! The best times of my youth was in my Dad's 91 Loyale. White with Blue interior. Many great trips from Mt. Vernon to Colville and back were had. Eating a basket of Cherrys before leaving eastern WA. Having to stop 50 miles later in Rainy Pass to get rid of said Cherrys. Great times, great times. So when my Mazda3 decided to detonate itself I had to look for a second car. In comes CL with the ominous heading "1991 Subaru Loyale $700". I got excited. I got really excited and couldn't sleep. I begged friends to loan me the $700 to buy it sight unseen. Then I realized I had a bonus check (Well, three checks in one month is a bonus) and actually DID have the $700. The next day I called the lister as asked the usual questions. Does it leak Oil "Yes" Does it smoke when you start it "No" Does it click when you take corners "Only to the left" Does the 4WD work "Yes" Will you take 500 "Sure". I was there in less than 2 hours (Reno to Fernley around 30 minutesish plus explaining to the boss why I HAD to leave RIGHT THEN). When I pulled up to the address I watched a White Subaru Loyale pull away. Was I too late? Did someone offer more? I was actually heartbroken. I called the lister and explained that I was at the address provided and was wondering if the car was still available. Imagine my relief when they said they had only moved it two blocks to the North. It was THEM that I saw driving away. I have never driven a borrowed Honda faster than 70 MPH (In a residential zone) in my life. But, by God I hit 80 (with the owner screaming to slow down). In less than 2 minutes I was there. Who knew Fernley had such big blocks. Needless to say, I got it for 500. 225k on the odo, leaks oil to the tune of a quart per two fill ups (I'm going to guess a quart a month-ish). As advertised, no smoke while driving, clicked when turning Left, but not Right (Going to try to source 4 CV's and change all at once) and the radio only got AM. So, here is my request for opinions: To me it looks like the leak is coming from No. 4 cylinder at the valve cover gasket. Runs like a beast. Pulls in all 5 gears. But takes around a mile or so to get fully up to speed on the freeway (70mph). The Oil Pressure gauge looks high, as in almost to the top. What type of aftermarket would be best to install just for secondary testing (I want to keep the car as stock as I can...Until I get my 3 back from Mazda. Then it's ON!). Gas Gauge reads 1/2 tank. Never moved. Even with the key out. Is there a quick how to on cleaning the sensor? Other than that, I've read up on switching to bosch relays (going to do that next month). Trying to figure out where I want to go with this car (I would LOVE to drop an STI in, but cost is an issue). And I'm really not worried about lifting, or lowering. Like I said, as stock as I can. Thanks for the opinions (and really, OPINIONS are what I want. No quoting Haynes Manual Page 63 Figure 2.1 with special attention to the left hand lower corner but a little to the right). If you think I made a bad purchase tell me why. If my feelings get hurt I will file a "Butt Hurt Report" and post it for all to see (You'll never see one). But with two kids and snow in Reno, a lowered Mazda3 is CRAP! Thanks all, Luke *Yes, you CAN make Star Wars Jokes. Doesn't mean I haven't heard them before* **It's pronounced 'Dork' Not 'D-J-Ork' Read up on your pvponline to find out why**
  22. I used to have this same problem in my 88 RX-7 (Granted, it was a Rotary). The trick for me was to put in new plugs, change the air filter, get an oil change and go right to the smog test. Never failed. I tested my theory when I went to Jiffy Lube to just do a smog, I failed hardcore (Forgot the numbers, it was a few years and kids ago). Pulled out of the bay, went around and had them change the oil. Paid for the oil change and did the smog test again (Same day, same shop) Passed with flying colors. I don't know if it was a mixture of new oil being burnt (13B's inject oil into the rotor housing to lube the apex seals) but it worked every time. Just a thought.
