  1. Well my shop teacher said to drill the hole bigger and tap it with a different size the head bolt that came out of the car matched up perfectly with a 7/16th-20 size and thread So Im gonna drill the hole bigger to fit a 1/2-20 bolt. My teacher has said this has worked for him in the past I just have to be very careful. :-\ I hope it works out. Should I be doing this? Thanks for all the hell too It was just what I was looking for. Oh and about the bolt being the wrong size I'm pretty sure that I used the right size I measured them all out.
  2. The #3 bolt looks fine but when I was torquing it, it seemed like something striped all the other bolts are to the final torque but number 3 it just keeps spinning I imagine this isn't a good thing.... What do I do?? Thanks
  3. Alright thanks I might just use the old bolts then, That's the only thing holding me up from putting the engine back together :] Thanks a lot.
  4. OK I will try and rent one of those, I was also wondering if it's necessary to get new head bolts too?
  5. Came with all the gaskets and plus some... I dont know how to put the valve stem gaskets on so I guess ill skip those? I just want to know everything To do before and after putting the gaskets on and to use a good sealent to make the gasket between the cam case and the head. I also need new head bolts?
  6. Sweet Ill try this I just know I need to flush it after putting that gasket crap into the radiator :[
  7. Thanks alot pictures would be great! No hurry though I still dont have the gaskets. Thanks
  8. I have a 1986 XT Turbo EA82T, I'm Wondering how to do a cooling system flush? I herd I need some sort of adapter that will allow me to hook up a garden hose and then I disconnect something else and it will flush the system? what do I do? Thanks:)
  9. Ok I might do that too. Here is the link for the parts I bought http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260322025079&viewitem= If you want to look? Thanks
  10. 1986 XT Turbo 113,xxx Miles All original. Low!
  11. Oh well I kinda went ahead and bought them anyways this guy seems really confident in his gaskets and has owned a business for a while so I hope they are good!
  12. I think I might go with the RTV sealer then. I have a picture but its kinda crappy But if you look on the left side the gasket around the cylinder is mostly gone compared to the right side. I dont know if it's a good Idea but a gasket set is a lot cheaper on ebay then like autozone would it be bad to shop on ebay?
  13. What exactly is an FSM? and how does his site work its kinda confusing lol Thanks for putting up with me...
  14. Lol thanks for all the help now I know exactly what to get :] I'm gonna try an be a mechanic some day and all this helps I thought I was suppose to use RTV on it haha Thanks a lot everyone!
  15. What gasket goes between the cam shaft case and the head? is it a gasket or do you put sealant? Thanks.
  16. Well I took the head off and its definitely the gasket it has some spots where it looks chewed through so now I need to get a gasket set and have the head checked there was some water in the cylinder's so I stuffed rags in there to dry them out. what should I do when all this is taken apart, my friend told me I need to shine up all the valves and stuff how should I go about doing that?
  17. that helps I might not need a lift then the gasket I need to replace is on the drivers side so it seems like there is more to take off... I think I just need to take my time and label where everything goes back together. Thanks!
  18. Does anyone know where a procedure page or site for removing all the parts leading up to the head? I have a book but it doesn't show all the parts before the head.
  19. Ive decided to just replace the head gasket, I'm gonna rent a garage here and have my friend help me replace it. I dont like the gasket fix stuff seems hoopdy to me.
  20. I know that I'm just trying to get the car running well enough to get it to a shop or a garage so I can work on it there not my apartments... It seems to be working though there is alot less steam coming from the head gasket and the temp went down eventually. Maybe there is hope :]
  21. Umm sorry I dont know to much about the hole swap thing Lol Im 17 and dont really want to do a swap but might. Maybe someone will reply with your answer On another note my car is running again and Im gonna try and fix the gasket with the gasket fix stuff, I put new plugs, wires, Oil filter, and oil and it fired right up today. I hope I dont jinx it!
  22. That would be great if someone could look at the car. I have had little help with the car, I figured since it only had 113k miles that it wouldn't need anything major... How much would a new engine cost me?
  23. Thanks a lot Dj0rk I was just mad at the time and that's what came out lol. I live in Gresham OR and I don't have any garage space and have a limited amount of tools. that's why I got the head gasket fix stuff you pour in the cooling system and it temporarily fixes the head gasket. I was going to take it to a shop and pull the engine. As far as knowing its the head gasket, I'm pretty sure that if water is spurting out of the head gasket then its probably blown? The car ran fine like 5 hours before I got the gasket fix stuff then when I put the stuff in the car it ran... then died. it would start again then die then finally it wouldn't want to start. So I don't know what to do?
