  1. Hey YOU!!!! Thanks for caring enough to be interested. I am trying to get through life like everyone else, one day at a time.

i enjoy working on cars, but not when they "NEED" to be worked on. Thanks Danno

  2. I have no power "to" the coil igniter (yes that is what they call it,and it is on the firewall as you said.) or to any of my sensors. Is there a senario where the key ignition can prevent ignition and still allow the starter to crank? is there an inline link between the key ign, and the cpu? Thanks Dann
  3. hi, thanks. I tested the sensors, crank, cam, ignition igniter (to the coil pack, and to the igniter), and got no juice/spark while cranking or otherwise. now if I am checking the crank sensor with the plug unattatched, how will it give me a .10 reading, or any reading at all? I also checked the wiring to the same sensor while attatched, and it gave no voltage reading, is the only source of spark/power the cpu, or "Could" all of this be from a faulty ignition switch? Or something like it?? Thanks Dann/plodder
  4. Ok, I will check the timing teeth:grin:. The book I have say's I will need to remove timing belt and a pully, I believe to replace these sensors, is that true? I have learned that the books are fickle about was is truly needed.
  5. I think the previuos post is right, but I had a horn that went off when I turned to the left or right I forget now. Anyway, I pulled off the rubber to the to the horn pressure mechanism in the steering wheel, and what was happening, was the wires pulled a little from the inside column, and the pressure mechanism was smashed enough so the wire moving set it off, and now that I think of it, it did go off in the cold a few times. All I did was to disable the mechanism on that side of the steering wheel. Check it out, IT IS EASY!!! I wish you well, Dann
  6. This is SJR Scott's Co-worker (Dann). Thanks Abe, Yes is is a 96 leagacy (post 6/95 production date) outback, stick,2.2. It started and ran fine ever since superdave sold me a tranny for it over a year ago (cheap&thanks ). This is what happened: I started it up no problem, it's about 24 deg F, i let it warm up for only bout 2 min, My wife needed to go somewhere right.. in a rush, well I had a lightweight shed ready to pull, so kill 2 birds one stone right? So I take up the slack of the strap.start to put some pressure and it stalls. I didn't feel it should have, but I assume it is the cold, ok, I try to start, nothing but a cranking motor!! Now my wife believes I broke her car, is that possible??? Ok here we go: Timing belt intact 1: No Spark (as I assumed) 2: i checked fuse box and replaced ignition fuse, even though one in there looked good. 3:fusable link looked good (though if that is bad nothing works?) 4:all the fuses in engine above driver side wheel well ok. 5:I was wondering about the ignition module by the firewall? 6: I am hoping it is not the cam or crankshaft sensor, I have done a crankshaft sensor in an Oldsmobile and it was a pain. The symptoms are the same. 7:I am on a very limited income.I have no credit cards. So i cannot just buy parts and hope they work 8: I am in Ferndale, the whatcom county area/bellingham area. Thanks Dann

  8. This Is bellingham Dann buddy, Thanks Abe!!!

  9. Nice work Dave!!!!!!!!, You've been on this a while. I see the tranny you sold me in the background:). Thanks so much for that by the way, good to see someone do what they love, and do it so well. Good luck in the testing, may it be more than you hope, and more durable than anyone can dream!!!!!
  10. I recently put in a tranny on my 1996 outback. Everything is fine except when I start out, or when I gear down. When depressing the clutch in 1st gear it grabs too much. So I need to dump or feather the clutch, which I hate to do. I've been told it might be my "spring thingy" (forgot what he said). I only replaced the disc, not the hardware, a friend said it wasn't necessary, and the kit costs....So ye experts, fools, and would mechanics, harken please to mine call.. You guys have been so helpfull so far!!!!, Oh, and my wife is taking the car to get a "free" check up at a tranmiision place:-\, EEK!!! Thanks Dann
  11. Hey Thanks! Napa parts says they have the contacts, I did not ask them about the rest, someone may have a starter to sell me for cheap, but I will rebuild this one regardless now, and keep a spare, they are small anyway. Thanks again.
  12. Yeah, my starter is a manual, but, I maybe able to convert an auto to manual, what did you want for one? My starter worked fine, then(of course) my wife goes to use the car, and, shazzam, nothing, no click, nadda. So I tap the starter, and vroom, it cranks and starts like a champ. Pull a part in smokin point is fine if they have the part, but the subarus seem to be picked pretty quick, and it is about an hour from my place. So unless I do it when I coming home from a trucking run, then it is too far out of my way.
  13. I can't believe what these part stores want for a starter:eek:. $140.00 and up, plus a core charge woth more than I want to pay for my starter!!!! I called the parts store and they say they have the contact parts I will need, and I probabaly will have to have the armiture turned, but couldn't imagine it costing more than $50.00. Anyone else done this?? I've taken apart starters to change the good guts of a "same brand" starter to the housing of the same brand bad starter(the mountings were very different). It worked fine, and there really isn't much to a starter anyway. So I will either try to rebuild, or maybe try swapping housings, I have some older subaru starters, Thanks, Dann:grin:
  14. :banana:Hey thanks, I knew there was a difference, and I thought there was more to it only screwing the sender in, but it makes sense, I knew it bolted up, and that the 96 had more information to digest in its brain, I guess the actual speed the car is going is what the engineers at Subaru thought would make the difference, who knows? Thanks Dann
  15. I need a 1996 man tran for legacy outback SW. Production date 09/95. I believe the cutoff date is 05/09 and goes through most of 97, but am not surethe type is: Ty752 VABC A. Thanks Dann 360-303-7433 Bellingham WA area, What is a reasonable price, said and done?? ALSO !!!!! Can a pre 05/95 be converted with the electronics needed????::
