  1. Thanks guys! Those look nice, but I was thinking of eliminating them altogether. Keep it simple. Any ideas on what to keep, what to cap?
  2. Got my freshly rebuilt ea81 all in and she is purring like a kitten. Now time to clean up some of that rats nest of vacuum lines...thoughts?
  3. Doug, I saw that. But he only has the drivers side, I need both. Great deal tho, way cheaper than a shop doing it.
  4. Whether the info I have not accurate it still comes to the same conclusion....faulty motor. That is what I am trying to get answered will it be faulty in a couple thousand miles? It seems like it will be fine.
  5. The problem is I am running out of money. It seems I have had road block after road block, and many things I never anticipated on replacing I have had to do. I live in Arkansas where there are not to many subies, so getting parts is a ***************. Finding someone to even machine the crank was hassle, many shops damn near Hung up on me when they heard "subaru". I have heard for years the the heads are strength of the motor, if you put rebuilt heads on the used block the rings will blow. The heads basically overpower the bottom end. Just wondering if worked the other way around, doesn't seem logical but it was worth a ask. Thanks guys.
  6. Got a ea81 I am rebuilding. Heads are cracked, can I put a good set of used heads on there without redoing valves and whatnot? I know new heads on a used block is a bad idea, never heard anything about the other way around. Thanks.
  7. Hey, Unsure why, but the machine shop say my rods are not fixable. Got any rods laying around? All 4 for price and shipping to 72120? 87' std, ea81 Thanks, Wes
  8. If you are not getting any spark and getting fuel, it is either the coil or the timing belt broke. Both easy fixes, pull the cap and see if the rotor is spinning while you crank, if it isn't then it's the belt, if it is spinning then replace the coil.
  9. Rebuilding the motor, I figured might as well throw some new valves in there along with all the other parts (i.e. bearings, rings, pistons) Am I wasting my money? Just wire brush them and they are good to go?
  10. It seems I have been getting a lot of parts wrong on this car. I got a 87 hatchback standard, ea81. Even the parts store has been giving me the wrong parts, such as the distributor cab for example, among others. I am sure the motor hasn't been pulled and changed out. Is this common?
  11. The one on the left is original exhaust. The one on the right is the one ordered, it is an exhaust as well. Just concerned about the slight height difference and notch difference.
  12. I just bought these on Ebay...do I need to return them? They are new and said they would fit EA81, EA82, and EA82T...1980-1989. I have a EA81 1987 Standard. It is a little shorter and the notch is wider? Should I return it, or will it work just fine? Thoughts?
  13. There are so many to choose from... which one works best and/or easiest? Thanks.
  14. Jerry, well I dont know what WCSS 13 is haha...That sounds great! Define old parts? Just the cross member and bolts? Will the kit include the linkage conversion etc. Never done one before not sure what I am getting into. I hear it is pretty simple.

  15. Hey Jerry, I got a 87 DL hatchback, ea81, manual 4 speed, 4wd. Since 4th is gone and 3rd grinding away, I was looking into doing a swap to the 5 speed. It is my understanding you fabricate a kit for this swap? I will need everything to make the transition smooth...do you still make them and how much? Thanks in advance.

  16. I have a 1987 DL 4wd 4 speed single range manual hatchback with an ea81. It is my understanding I can swap for the 5 speed dual range...I see a few on ebay they look completely different which one is best? Which will easiest to convert? Thanks for the help. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/85-86-87-SUBARU-PASSENGER-MANUAL-TRANSMISSION-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4cf404b59cQQitemZ330511463836QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/87-88-89-SUBARU-MANUAL-TRANSMISSION-4WD-DUAL-RANGE-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZMakeQ3aSubaruQQhashZitem256384f653QQitemZ160583448147QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  17. I appreciate it GD, gosh you really know your stuff. Ya, the 4 speed seems like junk...its got 202k and 4th is gone and 3rd grinds. What about the shifter can I just use the same one...its the pull up type. I need to rebuild the motor know of any good quality rebuild kits for the ea81 for a decent price? It seems no one in town carries one I have been looking online but it seems the kits are far and few between.
  18. Interesting... I am feeling a little more confident now that a few people have said it is doable. I appreciate it.
  19. Gosh that is ridiculous... what a hassle. HOw do you know about this to the exact spec's lol...you really know your stuff
  20. My 4 speed 4wd is going out of my 87 hatchback ea81...I found a 5 spd dual range on ebay. Those 4 speeds are hard to come by it seems....Will it bolt up? What conversions will I have to do? Thanks in advance.
  21. Damn, but I still need the ea81 motor...how much did you want for it?

  22. Hey, I need the transmission and the motor. 4th gear went out and it threw a rod (its been a crappy month).... I know shipping is pricey but are you willing to ship? I live in Arkansas and parts are ridiculously hard to find around here.
