  1. Thanks guys got the blinkers working...it was a short on pass side and blew fuse. Bad news though it decided to throw a rod yesterday....now I gotta pull it out and rebuild it. My poor car, I just bought it and the guy before me hardly changed the oil thanks wongleflute grrrrr.... I appreciate the help guys!
  2. Beautiful!!! I love the color!! Can' wait to see it put together post lots of pics please. Great job on everything! Wes
  3. Ya I will have to check the fuses. I know subies are known for electrical issues in the 80s....neither one of the blinkers are working outside or on the dash, however, when push the flashers button just the drivers side blinks on the drivers side on the dash and outside. Dont think it would be possible that all the bulbs on one side are all out. I am thinking a fuse or flasher unit. Never replaced flasher unit before, where is it at and does oreilly or autozone have one or is that a factory order item?
  4. Hey guys, I just bought a 87 DL Hatchback 4WD with EA81. Its got 202K and has barley been driven in the 6-7 years. Funny thing...flashers are working (drivers side only) but neither blinker will work... is that a bad ground or what? Not sure where to start... any suggestions would help. Thanks. Wes
  5. Holy ************....that sounds easy as hell. I thought I was gonna have to switch out the hubs ans mix and match and screw around. Thanks for the help!
  6. Sounds great, but that sounds like a huge hassle switching it...do they make adapters that bolt on or will have change hubs and everything?
  7. Ya I noticed that the 14" wheels are kinda hard to come by. So, I think I gonna stick with the 13"....after looking at all the 13" options it seems the 185/80R13 are the best. Thanks for the all suggestions guys.
  8. Thanks Dogbone....ya its got 13"...I think I might switch up to 14" to have more options. I like those tires... do they do well off road? GeneralDisorder: Its EA81 motor.
  9. hey guys, I just picked up a 87 DL hatchback 4wd. It needs tires real bad. I don't wanna mess with a lift kit right now. Do any of you know how much bigger tires I could go without it rubbing or shaving the fenders or anything. I wanna see if I can go a little wider of a tire for better traction in the mud and snow and as tall as I can squeeze under there for a little more ground clearance.... any experience or ideas? Any brand of all terrain tires you recommend also? P.S. I am not gonna do any extreme mudding or 4 wheeling. Thanks, Wes
  10. Hey, I have a 2002 Outback Sedan with 156K. For a few years now been having an air leak on the drivers side weather stripping. It seems to be around the vent door hinge area. It is loud as hell on the highway but I can't feel the air coming into the cab, so its hard to pin point. I have inspected the gasket everything seems good (nothing dangling, rips or tears, etc.) Car hasn't been in a wreck so the door isn't out of alignment. It seems to be starting to do the same thing on Pass. side. On a real windy day on the highway I might as well roll down the windows, its that annoying. Any ideas on a fix? Is this common? I hate to spend $130 on new door gasket if there is a better/easier way. Thanks.
  11. OK, I am frustrated! Put a new voltage regulator in the car (didn't do the conversion to newer alternator, didn't wanna mess with it yet). Lights still weren't working, checked fuse and it wasn't blown. So I pulled fuse and jumpered it for hell of it, and it worked finally, so then I put the fuse back in and it was still working but only with brights on (not that bright either). Checked for bad grounds again....all good, the passenger side blinker is working in the parking lamp not the blinker, when I take it apart and wiggle it it works....for a second, then it switches back to blinking the parking lamp. On drivers side put new bulb in parking lamp and it still wont work. What is going on with this thing, I love Subaru and this the 4th one I have owned but I have never had so many electrical issues. Was this common with older ones? The oldest I have owned before this one was an 89' XT EA81.
  12. The guy said the alternator was just replaced. Is it possible the alternator is nice and strong now and has thrown out the voltage regulator. Now my nights will not work at all, fuses are good. I found what looks like the regulator on top of the coil and one on bolted to fender next to coil, which one is the voltage regulator. Thanks, Wes
  13. Voltage regulator is in the dash near steering column right?
  14. Hey, Got a 81 DL hatchback EA71, and it is doing some crazy weird things electrically. Sometimes it is fine, and other times I put on right blinker and left blinker blinks or both blink. Front park light wasn't working so I went to replace bulb and it turned on it was funky. Headlights only work with brights, without brights they turn on for about 5 seconds and turn off. Today, I turned on the lights and many lights started flashing one blinker, high beams indicator , door a jars. I was like holy ************ what the hell is going on. I was thinking bad grounds so I checked and it has soild grounds to the block radiator and body. Just purchased car last week, I need to get inspection done for state and it isn't gonna pass like this lol. Is this a common problem? Any ideas? Thanks, Wes
  15. Hey whats up, I am looking into buying an 81 Subaru hatchback (3 door), 230k for $300. It has been trashed but it is running awesome (it's a Subaru..of course it does). It has a EA71. Should I be concerned about parts? Do you have suggestions? Any concerns of this year? Recommendations? Should I not buy it, anything you let me know I would Appreciate it. Thanks, Wes
