okay scott, i have this pair of mechanics in wenatchee who own their own subaru shop, and i have asked them the same question before. they do work on my subaru once in awhile and when i asked them the question, they told me it was normal. i wouldnt worry about it, subarus can come right off the delivery truck with piston slap. promise its a sooby thing.

nobody else with this problem i could find. and no, no torque bind whatsoever. no AT light either, the only code the car throws is for the o2 sensors, and i just installed the fuse for fear of i might fu*k somethin else up runnin it like i was in FWD without that fuse in there. so i put one in. AND, no FWD light at all... which really confuses me

225,000 miles well, i put it in there so just in case the solenoid was still active, it wasnt TRYING to engage the rear (if that makes sense) yes all my tires are new no symptoms, seriously, just one day i was tryin to crawl up this hill and i couldnt make it and it got pointed out to me that just my front tires were spinnin. i can also feel the power difference big time while accelerating

thanks twitch, ive heard a lot about the 5 spd swap, but isnt there quite a few mods you have to do to make it fit?

so my 96 leggy's AWD went out, and as of now its only front wheel drive. i installed a fuse in the FWD fuse slot to prevent further damage than i already might have caused... $#!*. anyone else have this problem before? i have done a ton of research and the costs i have come up with for this fix is spendy. i think its either that solenoid in the rump roast of the transmission that engages the clutch packs for the rear, or its the packs themselves... im so lost. a subaru isnt a subaru without AWD!!

hey guys. heres the scoop: im bought an 83 gl its got a rebuilt motor with 30,000 miles on it, and 176,000 on the chassis. 4 spd tranny, 4X4 (of course) third gear in the tranny went out and i want to get if fixed as soon as i can. i need some help to find out where i can buy a used one, a rebuild kit, or find someone with one. any help guys? kev

well, i got a 96 leggy... automatic. minor motor mods: k&n air filter k&n oil filter royal purp fully syn oil bought a chip off ebay... maf sensor yada yada. i got jewed lol suspension: 97 outback struts 2 1/2" spring spacers total its up around 3" i also have 3 kc daylighters i custom fitted to my roof rack, complete with illuminated switch on the inside lol. love it
