  1. I just installed my system around christmas. I bought my OEM kit off ebay for my 01 legacy. It was just a matter of unplugging the door lock timer and plugging in the keyless entry unit. The hardest part was getting the glove box off.
  2. While im not a mechanic, i do sell tools as my part time job. We always have mechanics coming in to buy their own tools for working at garages. Most shops only offer air to their mechanics. As for the disposal fees... Im gonna guess its just another way to pad their collective wallets at dealers. Im also not sure but i think most shops have to pay fees and taxes for handling hazardous waste...
  3. I used to use the silverstars, but i only got 8 months out of the bulbs because the life is only 150 hours, and 35 bucks a pair is kinda pricey. The problem is compounded by the fact that the low-beam is on all the time because of the daytime running lights. Nevertheless it was substantially brighter at night!
  4. I had a noticeable squeal from my rear disc. Turns out one of the pad was jammed and it was worn out. I replaced the rear pads with cheapo wearever silver pads from Advance Auto (they were the only ones available that day). They squealed for about 2000 miles off and on, and they are working fine now with minimal squeal. In short; suggestion would be cheap pads on stock or older rotors...
  5. I removed the piece and havent noticed any difference in power or mpg. I also havent noticed any water or large particles in the intake housing or filter. i too questioned the function of the piece, because there is no direct path to the grill opening and the intake mouth...
  6. to resolve the "socket stuck on plug" issue, you can shell out a few bucks for a 6" locking-end extension, makes changing plugs a breeze.
  7. I had this same problem with my 01 legacy. i had the car for 3 months and the a/c would make a resonating noise when i shut off the car. looking at my service record, there was an o-ring repair (code 015071 if that helps at all...). the repair was no charge under warranty at 6000 mi.
  8. Correct me if im wrong, but the GM oil is gl-4. I thought we all had to use gl-5??? For an amateur like myself, some explain the difference between the 2 categories. My tranny is grinding like mad from 2-1 where i have to be completely stopped. But i dunno if i can part with 45 bucks for 3 quarts.
  9. I replaced the stock copper champion plugs with the NGK iridium plugs. Honestly i believe it was a waste of 28 bucks. It runs a little smoother, but power and fuel mileage was just as good with the cheapo champions. thats just my feelings on the matter...
  10. My 01 legacy runs fine on 87, and will only struggle when its cold (below 20 F). I guess im fortunate enough to not have that bad of carbon problems, although i only have 36,000 on the car. Believe it or not, my car ran terrible on 94 octane, and ive sworn off anything higher than 89. According to everyone on here the seafoam stuff is great, so i third the notion.
  11. As far as dealers go, stohlman (sp?) in Tysons i heard is decent. I saw a few places in Falls Church that say they specialize in Jap. cars including subes, but i dunno much about them. Ive been taking mine for warranty work to Dulles motorcars in Leesburg, they do decent work, but that might be too far for you.
  12. Yeah i know what you mean with the clutch squeak. Mine has been doing it for about a year, and i havent gotten around to messing with it. I too would be interested in solutions to that annoyance. Speaking of clutches, im about to schedule an appt with the dealer to fix the infamous "cold clutch shudder" problem. Wish me luck!
  13. Im thinking about changing my gearbox and rear diff oils. Any special oils or favorites anyone uses? Is the operation pretty easy, or something to avoid?
  14. My best was last summer between Scranton, PA and home in VA. I somehow managed 34.1 mpg doing between 70-75 for most of the trip. It was regular gas with dino-valvoline 5w-30 in the engine. Im back down to about 29 mpg with my 5MT 01 legacy sedan. Im hesitant about the mobil syn oils....
  15. Once i got around 34 mpg doing 75 in my legacy on the interstate, havent been within 2 mpg's since then, been getting around 29 more recently over the last year
  16. on mine each nozzle shoots a flat wide stream... it does seem to hit high on the windshield, except when at highway speeds where the unconcentrated spray is blown to the bottom of the glass
  17. I believe that the McIntosh stereo in the outbacks have rear tweeters... they have 11 speakers. I couldnt tell you where they all go though
  18. well i tried braking a little harder than normal, but the problem was still there... Since i have discs all around, would switching the 2 rear discs solve the problem, like switching drums would?
  19. recently i have heard a pulsating noise from the rear passenger side wheel. Upon closer testing while i was driving i determined the noise was only present under braking. The pulsating became faster at higher speeds, but there is no odd brake pedal feel. Im gonna take the wheel off tomorrow morning to see if i can get a visual on the problem... if anyone has any suggestions or comments about this problem i would love to know
  20. Unfortunately, i dont think there are any adjustments you can do, i tried to peek around for adjustments in my 01 legacy, but to no avail
  21. I just recieved this via MSN.. 22. This is my first posting! Anyway, i was looking into upgrading my system, when i noticed on the rear deck there are 2 grey plates covering what seems to be places for speakers, you can see them if you pop the trunk and look up at the rear deck from inside the trunk. I guess you would need to know that it is a 01 legacy L sedan. If anyone can help me i would love to know what size speaker fits in those 2 spots. Thanks, Andy
