  1. GD thank you very much, you are very knowledgeable. The thing that leads me to believe it has nothing to do with the bearings is that the pressure fluctuates often, and only drops when i am cruising or idling. If it were worn bearings i would expect the oil pressure to be low much more often, is that right?
  2. Well it is ticking like mad, goes up with the rpms. Does it sound like the bearings? will i have to replace them, now? i just had these guys do new heads on it, so the last thing i want to do is pull the motor again..
  3. I have had this low oil pressure problem with my ea82. The oil rides normal when cold, but once it warms up the oil pressure rides near 0 psi while highway cruising and at idle. Other than that it goes up to nearly 30psi when around town. My mechanic said it could be a faulty wastegate on my oil pump, releaving pressure when its not supposed to. Now today he said he thinks its worn out bearings on the crank/rods. I was trying to get him to explain, but it didn;t make sense how worn out bearings in the bottom end would make the oil level drop. Anoyone ever heard of this happening? Worn bearings causing drop in oil pressure?
  4. Alright so i got some news on the car. Not great news. The oil pump is shot, its wastegate remains partially open and hold no pressure or something. That needs to be replaced. As with the knocking noise, that only happened once. The mechanic says the bearings in the bottom end are going out due to having little oil. This noise only happened once though, and went away. Im thinking i wont have to worry to much about the bearings at this moment, since the noise went away? What do ya'll think? Anyways im sort of pissed he said they would have to replace those bearings cause the car was in there all last month getting new heads and running right, only for them to send me out the door with a still ************ty oil pump. Shouldn't they have tested that? Should they be entitled to rebuild the bottom end of my motor, even though they just replaced heads/waterpump/timing belt? They checked my water pump and told me to replace, so i did. If it needed a new oil pump i would have replaced it too. It did have an oil leak, which they fixed. Should i go after these guys, or should i take my losses and put a new oil pump in and hope the bottom end doesnt go out anytime soon. Sorry for the huge post
  5. No idea what weight, it just came from the mechanic with new heads installed. Im just going to give it back to him and let him know the pressure rides very very low when cruising the highways and the temperature goes up when i push it up big hills. Ill let him know the gauges may be faulty thanks for the info
  6. My 1991 loyale 5mt runs at very low oil pressure on the highway, near 0 psi sometimes. when driving around town it goes up a down a little, but usually sticks around 30 psi. The car also has a faulty thermostat, normal engine temp the needle sits around 1/4 of the way up, as opposed to 1/2 way up. Anyhow on my recent drive from norcal to socal when i was going up big hills in 4th gear @4000rpm, the pressure would be near 0 and the temperature would go up to about half way. If i cruise below 3000 rpm the oil pressure is around 15psi. If i go over 3000 on the highway, it drops close to zero. Anyone have a dignosis? Do the ea82's normally run at that low of oil pressure? Thanks all!
  7. by dump the clutch, do you mean rev it up and dump the clutch like your trying to spin the wheels in reverse? just asking cause i see people saying this, not sure what they mean
  8. Yea all the valves had cracks between them, they said one head was warped too. Im going to call them out on the phantom timing chain wjen i pick up the car, im pretty pissed, these guys are gonna hate me haha thanks all for the info!
  9. cool subaru i just bought the same exact car last month. shes getting new heads now tho. are you reffering to the neon in the back running 12's? proof or it didnt happen
  10. newbie here whats the advantages of using that honda motor? does it have alot of power? does it mate up to subi trans?
  11. grossgary In response to your post, hes doing this work for free because they have already done the heads and labor on that was enough. he said he would do timing and water pump for free. I know how things work between shops and parts distributors I do think hes hosing me on this, as i stated at the end of my first post. He wants to charge me 300$ for the timing chain alone. I have searched all over the internet and can only find timing belts, no chains for the ea82. My only question: Is there a timing chain in my ea82 motor?
  12. well, he said it was gonna be 300 bucks, belt kits run ~100$ or less.
  13. thanks for the input im just making sure im right before i call out the mechanic tomorrow. He said they were gonna install all this stuff for free since theyre doing my heads.
  14. Ive got a 1991 loyale in the shop getting new heads. I said we may as well do the belts too while were under there. He tells me that its a timing chain, not belt, and that the kit would be 300$ =O . So is there a timing chain on these motors? i saw a chain looking thing hanging over my dissasembled motor, but everywhere i look online i cant find a timing chain, only belts. Is this guy trying to rip me off? I made a post in another thread about this so yeah, sorry
