  1. Thanks for the info. This is happening when it is already in 1st (ie: moving along in very slow traffic) not down shifting into 1st at speed. It will be happy for a few minutes then out it comes. Where can I find the adjustmens and the specs for them? Any links to pics of these pins would be great. Thanks JWS
  2. Well the title just about sums it up. i have a 88DL with a swapped in D/R, it pops out of first gear on decel only. The trans has no abnormal noises and other than this issue works great. All the mounts are intact and in good condition. Am I looking at tear down and replacing the blocker rings or are these only serviced as a complete synchro assembly. I was not able to find the thread on trans tear down with the search feature even though I thought I've seen on on here, help with that link would be great as well as any insight into what I'm in for. thanks JWS
  3. the water through the carb can do wonders for the carbon build up. The easy way we check cats at work is to smack them with your hand (note: the cat better be cold, ouch if not) or lightly with a rubber mallet. good luck JWS
  4. Thanks, that is one of the places that I'm going to check, just don't have the ambition yet. I might check it while at work tomorrow. JWS
  5. This concern can also be caused by a failing cat converter. IE during the rattle noise it blocks the exhaust flow.
  6. Wow 24 views and still no Ideas. I was hoping I am not the only person that has had this. :-\
  7. This just started happening to my "88 DL wagon, in the morning the cluster back lights do not come on even though the dimmer still works on the heater controls and the hazard switch. After about 2-5 miles it starts working perfect. Another thing that just started to happen is the pass side blinker indicator in the cluster works intermitantly (the blinkers ar working proper on the outside) Thanks JWS
  8. Thanks for the info. Where is Toppenish Wa,? I'm in the Seattle area. PM me what you think a reasonable price might be.
  9. I am sorry for asking a question that I know has been answered already. But, I have been less than successful with the search. I really would like to install a rear swaybar on my 1988 DL. It does have a front bar. '88, DL, spfi, D/R. What do I need to get to install one. list of donor cars/parts would be appretiated.
  10. Don't mean to hijack, but I just swapped in a dual range from a "88 gl into my "88 DL push button. Is there a NEED for any of the plugs to get hooked up or is it just for the reverse and 4x4 indicators? Thanks JWS
  11. I have a spare 1988 gl cluster, dual range 4x4, had power windows and locks. If you're in the Seattle area you try it.
  12. Thats a new one for me. I've been working with front wheel drive and CV's for better than 10 years and have never heard anybody refer to inner cv joints as DOJ's. I suppose you learn something new every day or so. Thanks. as for the main question, I have found a few postes for the rear struts but still nothing on the front.
  13. Yes there is a very slight chance that it could cause issue with the rad. But one thing to remember, the heater core passages are much smaller than the radiators. I still recomend doing a drain and fill after the heater starts clearing up. I had to do this to my '88 dl and a buddies '88 gl.
  14. sounds to me like your charcoal canister. it is used to accumulate fuel vapors from the gas tank and allow the engine to burn them slowly. I don't know what will happen if removed.
  15. Oh yeah, duh. 1988 DL 4x4 5-speed *soon to be dual range* side note: what is/are DOJ's?
  16. I know that I 've seen a thread about swapping in Miata struts & springs on here, but I can't find it. Please help with a link, I have tried the search but with no luck. I'm wondering if this would increase the firmness (better srping rates and shock valving. Thanks
  17. Thanks, thats what I thought. No it's not a turbo.
  18. I have 2 buddies, 1 has a spfi engine that is perfect and the other needs a mpfi engine. What all needs to be swapped , or do I tell them they're out of luck. If it wont work what is a freshly resealed, rewater pumped, rebelted EA82 spfi worth. note: the reason the good engine is for sale is the weekend after he fixed and service it he was rear ended coming home from Stevens pass. This is the car I've Benn getting all the interior and other good gl parts for my stinky dl.
  19. Just don't overlook a plugged/failing cat convertor. I've had many cause similar conditions. IE engine runs great at idle but not at rpm or under load.
  20. Actually, as far as the newer cars go the complete dash comes out as a unit. In some cars the (dodge caliber, jeep compass/patriot) the hvac assembly comes out too. I work for a Dodge,Jeep,Chrysler dealership and have pulled many dashes. But the Subaru's might be different.
  21. What I've done on many others is after flushing with water is just hook the hoses up backwards of the way they were and just drive it. It will be back flushing while you drive. It may take a week but will most always fix them. That way you don't need to worry about having any lingering acid in your system. After it cleans itself just drain and refill the cooling system.
  22. Thanks for the info. I tried yester day, the easy answer is no they do not swap. I found the 2 connectors that go into the 2 plugs on the top of the clusters a different, and the pins that go into the round connectors are not the same. But the speedo works (cable drive), so oh well at least i got a better dash bezel and a working defroster. I am a bit supprised that their is not the wiring is the dash harness for the other trim/option levels. Most the modern cars have a universal dash/body harness.
  23. Morning all, I have a 88 dl with a basic cluster (speedo, fuel, coolant temp) I have a 88 gl cluster from a friend that has (oil & tach) is this a dirrect bolt on swap or do I need any sensors off his gl to make the gauges work. I think I read that the oil sensors are different between the gauge and idtiot light, if so can I just swap the sensors or is there a wiring issue that i need to deal with too? thanks
  24. Hey all, been checking and reading on this site for a month or two. I've had a 1996 legacy sw for 2 years and love it. Just bought a 1988 dl, push button, 5-speed, with some issues that I wil be posting on soon. first ? is there a thead that covers how to post pics that I've missed? Thanks and this looks like a good place to hang out.
